What's a worthy replacement?

I liked the screen size tbh. I thought I wouldn't want anything bigger than the Desire, but I think playing with so many more smartphones, and admiring them, I think I'd be disappointed with anything under 4.7" (any double entendre welcome!)

I said the same, I thought the Desire was an ideal size but, I could never go back to anything that small again now! any bigger though I think would be too big as I can just about use this with one hand.

One thing is for sure - HTC are going to make a killing with the One X.

No iPhone 5 available. No SGS3. No Ascend D Quad yet. Right about now is when all the people who discovered android with the iPhone 3GS-beating Desire are now looking for a new phone, and in the meantime lots more people have caught onto android, so with nothing else to compare spec-wise, well, there's nothing else around to compare. And I even saw on another thread someone mention that their mother had a One X. It is a highly desirable mainstream gadget and it makes an iPhone 4S look decidedly unimpressive.

Actually, with the current trend in increased screen sizes and their evident commercial popularity, unless Apple bring out a large screen themselves, they are not going to be a part of that growing market.

Although I don't think I'll be getting a One X, I think it is going to do HTC a lot of good in clawing back market share and increasing popularity.

I'm waiting to see what the other three mentioned phones are going to be like although I doubt very much I'd be tempted by an iPhone. My main priority though is a 720p display. Ideally with retina-like pixel density, ideally 4.3-4.5"

The display on the Xperia S would be ideal, I think, but I'm not convinced by the rest of the phone's spec. If the One S had the Sony's display that would be close to the ideal form factor for me (they both have 4.3" screens but the HTC is lower res.) as the CPUs are similar (slight differences I notice, but I don't know which is better) and I'm not sure I need quad core, although I wouldn't say no.

But ultimately I want vanilla ICS baby. And a removable battery and microSD.

Fingers crossed something will turn up that will make the decision easy.

The real killer with the One S is storage. They say 16 GB, but after taking out OS and app space that only leaves slightly less than 10 GB for media, and there's no expansion slot! :(

I'm afraid that some extra dropbox space isn't an adequate replacement.

Hi,

Well, after starting the thread back in the middle of February I have gone from not knowing what's around the corner in terms of new phones to sitting here with my new HTC One X :)

Only had it a couple of days and got it while away from home so other than getting it generally set up I haven't had time to get to know my new friend yet. However, first impressions are wow! what a nice bit of kit.

My intial concern was the lack of SD card. After thinking about it I only had an 8Gb card in my desire so for me it's not going to be an issue.

It's very slender and acually doesn't feel that big in my hand (where have I heard that before?) and I can still easily button it up in my shirt pocket... So size isn't important after all

One thing I did like about ICS is being able to sign into Play Store using any of my gmail accounts and accessing the paid for apps from either. I'm sure this is new as I don't recall being able to do that on 2.3.3 but I may be mistaken.

I still have my Desire but will be moving it on when I can face parting with it. It had been the best phone I had ever owned. I just hope the One X keeps me as happy.

So, given I'll be moving over to the One X forum I would just like to thank everyone in the Desire forum for previous help, hints and tips.

Good luck.

Dave.

Three weeks of contract left. Aarggh choices!
Do want a new toy now. Down to three/ four. HTC either X or S, the S3 or the Ascend. Guess it is going to be comparing all four in the flesh, though at the moment it would be a grey one x. Screen looks great, loads of developers piliing in to fix issues and give options, and no danger of looking like an iPhone rip off.
As still on original battery and SD card, I'm trying to convince myself this is not an issue.

Well after reading the reviews i went into phones 4u & had a look at the one x, after having a play with said phone & being offered a very early upgrade paid for by phones 4u i went with the one x. I must say i am glad i did it is seriously fast over twice as fast as the galaxy tab which in its self is faster than the nexus & the nexus s in quadrant. Another plus point it is a generic one x no crapware from the phone providers & already unlocked.

How much is that costing a month if you don't mind me asking, and on what network.

lol well its a quad core so that's close enough, just decided to switch to lookout as that has served me well on the desire.
I have used bullguard on the pc but it was a long time ago, will take your word for it that its not much good.

I had a fiddle with a One-X, and I have to say, it's far too unwieldy for me - if I can't use it with one hand, it's too big (actress/bishop, etc.) :p To me, it's too big for a phone, but too small for a tablet - and combined with its lack of expandability, this ruled it out. Oh, and the fact that due to personal circumstances at the mo, a 24-month contract (or
