What's taking Verizon so long???

Ok so I created this thread to keep us all busy in the meantime while we wait for some ICS...

The question is simple, What's taking VZW so dam long to bring us the GNex?

My speculation is this...

Verizon over extended themselves ...they have 3 giant players coming to the masses in a very short period of time.

DROID Razr
GNex
Vigor -refuse to call it that ridiculous name vzw came up with...lol

With that said, I think with the 14 day return window, we may see these phones spaced out 2 weeks with the first being the Razr coming on Nov 10th....which is crazy, 3 hot phones all within 6 weeks is alot of phones...and hype!

As I see it, the last one to make the appearance will most likely be the Galaxy Nexus! Which if vzw holds tight on the 14 day window, and the Razr drops on the 10th, we wont see the GNex until around Dec 9th....ughhhh!

It makes sense because we already know the Razr is coming on Nov 10th, and the Vigor will be announced this Thurs at HTC's event, and probably see a Black Friday release 2 weeks after the Razr.

What do you guys and gals think?

Will Vzw play this out all the way till Dec?

Will they just say screw it and release them all on the 10th?

Or will they just release both the Vigor and GNex on Black Friday?

I don't see your scenario being very likely. My guess is more likely RAZR on the 10th, Vigor on the 17th, and GNex on the 25th. I'm basing this on the MAP schedule we saw which, supposedly shows the first date as being the day of preorders opening. The RAZR's preorders opened 15 days before the launch, and given that the GNex has been hyped almost as much, I think it will likely be given the same treatment thus the 11/10 shown on that MAP. I don't think the Vigor will probably have more than a week of pre-orders since it really hasn't had any press at all.

Im seeing it this way

10th razr
17th vigor
dec 1st Nexus

Being that that black friday sits on the 25th. I am betting that Verizon will take that time to push the vigor, razr and iphone that weekend.. Knowing dam well real Android enthusiasts will wait for the Nexus anyway. Plus from the 17th to the 1st is exactly 14days +1. No returns

I agree with this ^^^.

You also have to keep in mind that the dates that all of these phones were/are being released weren't/aren't the original intended release dates*, so now VZW is doing what they can to shoehorn them all in somewhere without creating absolute chaos.

(*Remember that old screen shot that showed the Vigor being released on 10/5? I'm sure there's plenty more we don't know about all three phones' previously proposed release dates.)

I'd agree with you if the Galaxy Nexus was not the first phone loaded with ICS.

It seems logical to me that Verizon would want to have the first Android 4.0 phone out before black friday. I'd imagine that there will be a ton of deals on pretty darn good phones on black Friday on all carriers which could equate to Verizon losing out on some sales.

Although, I guess you never know. Perhaps Verizon is ballsy enough to think they have no competition and can launch such a hugely hyped phone after the biggest shopping day of the year has passed.

again. they know real android fans will buy it.. so selling the phone is not an issue to them. yes other carriers have gingerbread phones.. but verizons response is LTE, Best coverage, etc, etc. plus i am gambling they believe the RAZR name will bring them tons of sales. And well we already know 4 out of 5 that walk into verizon on black friday are going to ask about the iphone first

That leaked MAP list yesterday looks more like advertising schedule for holiday season, not the release plan. So I guess Nexus will hit somewhere between Rezound release and black friday.

You're over thinking this. Verizon's flagship phone this holiday season is the RAZR. It's going through pre-orders right now. They are NOT going to officially announce a phone like the Rezound or Nexus right before the RAZR launcher, unless that phone's launch is imminent. Verizon should be more talkative about the Nexus after the RAZR launches.

you have waited this long, why not wait another month? its not that bad, your world will not end if you dont get the nexus before everyone else, just remember it is a phone, go outside play some ball, go to the gym, and before you know it the phone will be here, and then what? you enjoy it for 2 weeks then bored again.

i am also waiting on this phone, but my DX is still going strong, no real issues at all, so i am not too anxious about the release of this phone, it exists, its coming, just wait until you see the preorder site, then you can start freaking out

I dont buy the Its Hyped thing with the GNex, we all want it, but this phone is not going to be a media darling like the Razr....no way! The GNex is a Tech Geek phone that only really appeals to someone who wants the latest and greatest from Google..

My original thought process was...

Razr- Nov 10th
GNex & Vigor- Black Friday

Which still can very much happen by the way!

However I think Vzw may be concerned with returns and what not, and may want to give each phone its own launch day. I don't see either the GNex or Vigor launching only a week after the Razr.

There is however a dark horse possibility.

Vzw can always follow the route they used with the Blackberry 9930.

Which was release the 9930 in tele sales and through the vzw website a week before it hit stores. No preorder, they just made it available to order right away.

That scenario might make sense since it would keep the GNex under the radar for about a week or so, and keep the stores clear of people coming in looking for the GNex.

I just wonder what the date would be if they pulled that...Nov 17th or Black Fri?

I don't think anyone is expecting to see Nexus going on sale before Razr. We are just speculating its release date which could be anywhere from 11/17 to late December.

from what i'm seeing on twitter from the Panda it seems VZW is having internal issues to some degree. Not sure in which regard but it seems that the ball is in their court. I myself could care less. I have enough to hold me over till the first of Dec.

I don't plan on getting any one of these new devices until they've been out for a week or so anyways. I need some real world reviews and opinions.

The big seller for VZW is going to be the Razr. It will outsell the Vigor and Nexus with ease. It will get most of the love from VZW including a big marketing campaign. The other two will get a modest bit of marketing from Verizon with the rest being up to the individual manufacturer and Google. We have seen this pattern before. All you have to do is see how Verizon marketed the Xoom to see how they are going to market the Nexus. We know the Razr is coming the 10th. The Vigor will likely come the 24th. I wouldn't expect to see the Nexus until two weeks after the Vigor with one week of pre-orders.

they are having issues using voice on LTE from what i am reading

They are too busy reading the pre release thread. We waste our time at work reading the thread for new leaks or info. They are reading it to see how crazy we all are. haha.

There ya go....some people think because we're highly anticipating the release for this phone, everyone is. Not the case, this phone will be a sleeper, and will most likely hardly get any media press from vzw!

pretty sure the latest Rumor Mill has the Rezound coming out much sooner than the 24th

Verizon Roadmap: Galaxy Nexus Appears Headed for Release Just After Black Friday (Updated) - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

I don't see the return window being a significant influence on the release schedule.

My guess for the release dates would be the RAZR on the 10th, the Rezound on the 14th and the Gnex on the 28th because it follows the marketing schedule. The Gnex could be released earlier, but I wouldn't hold my breath. When has the last time Verizon released a phone sooner than expected?

If Verizon wants to market the phone as part of its holiday portfolio, the latest they want to release the phone is cyber Monday. Only a technical or supply issue would push the date back any further than that.

We'll know alot more after HTC officially announces the Rezound tomorrow. I'm still willing to bet that it will be released the 17th, with the Nexus following on Black Friday unless VZW has more problems internally. The RAZR is going to outsell both of them without a doubt no matter when they are released, so Verizon really doesn't have much to worry about there. I, honestly, will have to take a good long look at the RAZR on the 10th if we don't have something official by then on the Nexus. I'm not using my own phone and everyday with the one I have makes me more nervous about getting it back to Verizon in one piece.

I never stated that it would release before the RAZR. It will release after the RAZR. My intention was simply to state that Verizon likely will not announce or discuss the Nexus much (outside of that weak press release) until after the RAZR has launched. They don't want to cannibalize sales of their flagship device.

they are having issues using voice on LTE from what i am reading

Not likely, given that Verizon is only now starting their VoLTE trials and that they have no intention of working this feature into a phone prior to late 2012/early 2013. The Nexus won't be capable of VoLTE, at least not this year's model.

I just don't see VZW ever doing more than 1 major launch on any given day.

The more launch days they have, the more they get you to come into the store and buy a phone (if you didn't do so during the previous launch). Plus, they have more chances to upsell on accessories, especially if you're just coming to see the phone out of curiosity.

Lol...they're screwing up my whole game plan. Which was to buy both the Razr and GNex at the same time and use em both to death and see which one comes out a winner.
