Root What's the OS?

I rooted my LG Optimus V that faithfully served me for a year and a half with help from this forum. I managed to drop my V someplace, so I now have an excuse to upgrade :congrats:

I've got an HTC EVO 4G (for Virgin mobile) on the way

Now here leads to my question. When I bought my LG Optimus V, Android OS 2.2 was the latest version. This EVO comes with the next best dessert treat, Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0

But when I go through the guides here on this board, it includes root guides for Gingerbread 2.3 and 2.3.5 and Froyo (which is new to me) 2.2, but no root guide for Ice Cream Sandwich.

Why is this? and thanks :D

Ack ... and secondly, I just read this:

Sprint is in the middle of switching 4G systems, from WiMAX to LTE. The two are incompatible, so you must check coverage in your city for the specific variety of 4G you're buying.

Virgin mobile USA is owned by Sprint Nextel, so I use their network if I'm not mistaken.

In the specs of the HTC EVO, it lists:

EVDO Rev A/WiMAX/WiFi

Does this mean that the EVO won't be able to use 4G once Sprint switches to LTE? Would this stop 3G data connections too?

Hello there!
Just to be sure, are you getting the Evo 4g or the Evo V 4g?
This has caused confusion among people and rightly so, as they are named very similar;)

The Evo 4G's latest and last OS is GB, not ICS. So I surmise you will be getting the Evo V 4G? Just making sure.
 
That's debatable at this point.

If you look on the Virgin mobile USA website, the only HTC EVO they have available is the HTC EVO V

If you look on the HTC official website, the only Virgin mobile HTC EVO they have listed is the EVO V

The phone I bought on Walmart.com linked here doesn't list it as an EVO V, but it appears to have all the same specifications as the EVO V.

I think it's a typo, I'm pretty sure it's an EVO V



and this is where I realize there's a whole separate EVO V sub-board. :o Thanks

But before I go over to that board, what do you think, did I buy an EVO V 4G or a plain EVO 4G?
 
I guess the best way to know for sure, is to pull the battery, put it back in.
Then while holding volume down, press and hold the power button to boot into the bootloader screen and post back here what is written on that screen:)
 
Another easy way to tell, if your phone has 2 camera's on the back (for 3d) you've for yourself the Evo V, but if just one, you've got the Evo 4G :)

Also if you bought it for virgin, then it's definitely the Evo V and as far as my knowledge goes, virgin doesn't offer the Evo 4G :)
