What's the scariest movie of all time?

I feel like the "right" answer is always the Exorcist. Personally I'm not a huge fan of the horror genre, but the ones I've enjoyed for (whatever reason) are:

-Silent Hill
-The House on Haunted Hill
-The Exorcist (it may be cliche, but it's cliche for a reason)
-The Shining
 
^Same here. I saw it as a kid.....those were some sleepless nights afterwards...

I live in DC and my Moms showed me the house it was filmed at. I was mad at my mom for a few days...lol
 
The Omen.....scared the crap out of me when the devil guy popped out in the mirror.

The Thing (by John Carpenter)

Just a great frikkin' movie!...the one in Antartica, remember? MUST see.

Also, the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is good.

Props to The Shining for just being awesome, though not so much scary.
 
Forgot about The Thing. My kids are too scared to try to sit thru the movie. They sat thru The Exorcist tho.

Most of the best horror movies were made back in the day. Now a days, u find one or 2 good ones sprinkled in here n there.
 
Poughkeepsie Tapes stuck with me... It's like a sadistic documentary... I still regret watching it! :( It's hard to find too...
 
For me, originally it was Evil Dead, but that was scary until I realized that it was supposed to be funny. no I find it hysterical (I love bruce campbell).

I don't know that I find any movie scary any more, but the most disturbing movie I have seen in a long time is probably se7en.

That movie still gives me the creeps. That plus the good guy gets it in the end.
 
Aahh I forgot about Evil Dead...

Yea...I definitely gotta add that to my list. Its supposed to be funny? Maybe the other ones, but 1 is scary as hell. That reminds me....gotta see if it passes the kids test. If they both run outta the room, its scary...lol Especially my son. He kinda likes scary movies.

Seven was nice. Ending always gets me, even tho I know whats coming. I feel so bad for Det. Mills...

i dont whether to call it scary or not but one movie I simply could not sit through and I ended up fast forwarding to the end. I really couldnt even bare to watch, I was to the point I became pale and became extremely agitated and nervous: Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the new one, not the 80s one). I think its mostly because of how graphic it is, it was too much for me, I couldn't handle the overall feeling of that movie for some reason.

That being said, I was able to sit through movies like the exorcist, paranormal activity, hostel, etc, with no real problem.
 
Signs. Oh, man that movie freaked me out. The scene in the basement with the kid in front of the grate, and the TV reflection... Yikes.

I found blair witch annoying. Too much screaming and not enough storyline. That and all the camera jumping made me nauseated. I actually thought part 2 made for a better scary movie, even if it was predictable.

Another good recent one was The Descent.
 
most horror movies arent horror movies anymore, its all about gore and shock factor...

what actually surprised me was Boogeyman, its pg-13, lmao, pretty good job of a scare flick for a pg-13 movie.

Could not agree more, to me the best horror flicks have been the ones to leave your mind to imagine and not necessarily show everything. BTW, IT still comes first to my mind when thinking of the scariest movies I've ever watched. And to think that IT was shown on national broadcast stations. I remember when my sister and I watched IT on tv, she was so scared that she slept in my room that night. And my wife got freaked out by I am legend, she was afraid to get out of bed at night for like a week.
 
For me it has to be 'The Burning', seeing it at a young age, the synth score freaked me out and the anticipation of the horrific burns of Cropsy :eek:.

Also was reluctant to answer the door on a foggy night after watching John Carpenters 'The Fog', another atmospheric film with a great music score :D

It may not have been the scariest movie I watched as a kid, but damn was I affraid to get near anything that remotely resembled a drain for god knows how long. I also like to think that I can thank IT for my long standing hatred of clowns.

And yes, IT was the first thing that popped in my head from reading the title.
 
I'm not sure it could be considered the scariest movie of all time, but Stephen Kings Rose Red is a really good movie. But beware, it is like four hours long.

There are a few for me. The Exorcist, The Descent, The Blair Witch Project really ruined camping for me. When I was a teen The Evil Dead got me pretty good. It was just so crazy with the girl all freaky looking screaming from that hole in the floor. When I was a kid Salems lot got me hooked on Stephen King books. Dont be afraid of the dark was good when you are young. Can't wait to see the new one. I also was pleasantly surprised by Jeepers Creepers. The first Halloween with that keyboard theme was great for its time. I could go on...
 
It wouldn't call it scary, it's not even a particularly good film, but Signs freaked me the hell out when I watched it, I was probably 13 at the time.

It's not scary or a horror, but it has moments that mess you up. Like the part with the alien on the roof or when Mel Gibson turns round walking through his corn field and sees a leg disappear off the path. Stuff shits you up something good.
 
I love scary movies. Two of the scariest to me were:

Jacob's Ladder (Wild, supernatural psychobabble BS)
Hostel (it's amazing what people will do - I could really see this type of thing happening, just like in the short story The Most Dangerous Game, upon which (I think) that the Ice-T / Gary Busey movie Surviving the Game was based...but then again, a lot of people have told me that I am a sick F....)

Wrong turn wasn't bad either in terms of gore and scariness, but it was just a bit cheeky...
