I heard that on the news earlier today. They said there were no deaths... that's fortunate. They can cause so much structural damage and loss of life is so often involved.

Not good.We (LA) had our first October with no rain since 1999. None. Nada. Zip. Zilch. You get the idea.
No, not good at all, especially combined with our single-digit humidity, and the most severe Santa Ana winds in more than a decade. It's quite frightening, really. Not good.
I never was, either, when I lived in Dallas.I'm never ready for the cold and the snow.
I never was, either, when I lived in Dallas.
Fall, with its turning everything brown and bare, brought a huge plunge in my emotional state, knowing that much worse was on its way. I hated the ice, below freezing temps, gloomy skies, and barren surroundings. I've said it before: I was there for its still-standing, record low temperature of -1°. Just miserable for this SoCal native...
Oh, yes, I understand. And you know I love the Moody Blues. That's such a beautiful song, so hopeful.I dislike the gloom and doom of winter as well. I truly hate the winter for it's the end of my mowing season (something I thoroughly enjoy). I've seen the time when we experienced almost a month of consecutive days of double digit minus degrees. It was absolutely no fun. Depressing is my take on winter. Dormant = death or so it seems to me. I have always enjoyed and take stock in the Moody Blues lyrics "The Dream"
"The Dream"
When the white eagle of the North is flying overhead
The browns, reds and golds of autumn lie in the gutter, dead.
Remember then, that summer birds with wings of fire flaying
Came to witness springs new hope, born of leaves decaying.
Just as new life will come from death, love will come at leisure.
Love of love, love of life and giving without measure
Gives in return a wonderous yearn of a promise almost seen.
Live hand-in-hand and together we'll stand on the threshold of a dream.
It helps me make it through the winter months just knowing it's a cycle of life.
I get it.Last night I had to run out to my truck. I was dressed in shorts and a t-shirt and barefooted.
I suspect the the temp was in the upper sixties. This morning I awoke to a balmy 21F with the wind ripping from the North. It has warmed up nicely.... it's now 23°. One just has to love the abrupt changes in Kansas' weather.
I want to see ghosts just falling from the sky on Thanksgiving. At midnight last night it was around 55°F outside. Today at noon it was 33°F and snowing. Tonight at midnight it will be 19°F
Later this week, I expect a tsunami of locusts.
