What's the weather like where you are?

Having lived in Tornado Alley, I can tell you I'd much rather deal with our occasional earthquakes--most of which are harmless--than another tornado. They're just so...vicious...

It was weird looking at maps of North Dallas today, post-tornado with all its destruction, and thinking I used to live right there. I've shopped at the Home Depot that got demolished. I know those streets really well. I feel so badly for the people whose homes or businesses were destroyed, but grateful there were no fatalities.

It was one of those banner days here today. It warmed into the mid sixties with no wind. Beautiful blue skies put the exclamation point on what I consider perfect fall weather.

Upper 80s today in our valleys, with 90s on the way by Friday.

Ah, fall in LA...

It looks like other parts of the country are in for some very bad, cold, snowy weather soon. Hope everyone's prepared.

I'm never ready for the cold and the snow.
I never was, either, when I lived in Dallas.

Fall, with its turning everything brown and bare, brought a huge plunge in my emotional state, knowing that much worse was on its way. I hated the ice, below freezing temps, gloomy skies, and barren surroundings. I've said it before: I was there for its still-standing, record low temperature of -1°. Just miserable for this SoCal native...

I dislike the gloom and doom of winter as well. I truly hate the winter for it's the end of my mowing season (something I thoroughly enjoy). I've seen the time when we experienced almost a month of consecutive days of double digit minus degrees. It was absolutely no fun. Depressing is my take on winter. Dormant = death or so it seems to me. I have always enjoyed and take stock in the Moody Blues lyrics "The Dream"

"The Dream"

When the white eagle of the North is flying overhead
The browns, reds and golds of autumn lie in the gutter, dead.
Remember then, that summer birds with wings of fire flaying
Came to witness springs new hope, born of leaves decaying.
Just as new life will come from death, love will come at leisure.
Love of love, love of life and giving without measure
Gives in return a wonderous yearn of a promise almost seen.
Live hand-in-hand and together we'll stand on the threshold of a dream.

It helps me make it through the winter months just knowing it's a cycle of life.

Oh, yes, I understand. And you know I love the Moody Blues. That's such a beautiful song, so hopeful.

On a related note, my husband reminded me recently of something from years ago. When he finally left the hospital after our daughter was born, exhausted, sleep-deprived, hungry, in awe of having watched and heard his child enter the world, he walked in the front door and this Moody Blues song, New Horizons, came on the radio. Its first few lines still get him choked up to this day. :)

Last night I had to run out to my truck. I was dressed in shorts and a t-shirt and barefooted.
I suspect the the temp was in the upper sixties. This morning I awoke to a balmy 21F with the wind ripping from the North. It has warmed up nicely.... it's now 23°. One just has to love the abrupt changes in Kansas' weather.

I get it. :)

When we first moved to Dallas [from Albuquerque], we kept hearing "if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes"--and we didn't get it. Then we waited 5 minutes!

Found out, among other things, that 'spring' consists of 3 days where you can have the windows open, followed by months of sweltering, steamy heat, and the AC cranking away 24/7. Likewise, 'fall' was 3 days with windows open, followed by months of rain/sleet/snow/ice and below freezing temperatures, dashing quickly to get inside where the heat ran 24/7. *sigh*

Do you think I'm happy to be back home in continuously temperate SoCal? You bet I am! :D

So with your new temperatures, is your mowing season over? Oh, I've been meaning to ask: would you mind posting [or PMing] larger pics of that beautiful wardrobe you made, the one with the secret door? I'd appreciate it!

I still have a couple of lawns that want one last mowing. I honestly don't know why. Perhaps they just want to see me freeze :) Neither wanted mowed this weekend when the weather was decent.
The forecast for Tuesday is low 11° with a high of 35°. A bit chilly for mowing and this time of year.

We got our real first snow today, it was around 20s degrees F, it impacted on so much lately, and the rain, but I am doing alright, I kind of wondered in the no snow zone tomorrow, if the sun's going to burn the snow?

Beautiful morning

I saw Dallas on the news tonight; there was ice everywhere. They said the temperature had plunged 50 degrees overnight, and temps were now in the low 20s.

Anyone here from the North Dallas area? I'd love to hear what you're dealing with right now where I used to live. Stay warm, and stay off the roads! Trust me, people in Dallas do not know how to drive on ice; putting yourself out there with multi-thousand pound vehicles sliding around uncontrollably is not a good idea!
