What's the weather like where you are?

Something is very odd here. There is a big bright yellow orb in the sky and I can actually see the sky. Haven't had this phenomenon in a long time, it will take some getting used to but I'm certainly enjoying it!

Watch out, that's the first sign of an alien invasion! And, any alien who wants this planet has to be pretty stupid, so I'd move your car before they park on it. ;)

That's almost the easiest time of year to get a ride because October is the International Balloon Fiesta.

The companies simply represent independent pilots.

If it's your first ride, wear something that's wash and wear because traditionally you'll be christened with champagne.

Ask if you can get a chance for a touch and go - a fast splash on the Rio Grande and then back up, if you don't mind wet feet.

Hot air balloon rides are great. You're traveling with the wind and so it's dead calm in the gondola. If you drop a feather it will fall straight to your feet.

No, we both haven't but we see many here. We're planning to visit Bernalillo again, late September. We're flying back home October 4th, when the festival starts. That NM landscape is so beautiful, it would be awesome to see it from above.

Thanks for the reference. I know nothing about safety regulations in the US, so I rather sail with a party you've good experience with.

If you're going to sail your first balloon anywhere, do it here, Albuquerque is the hot air balloon capitol of the world.

Hot air balloons are controlled flight, not random, with a wider margin of error. Not everyone knows that.

In the fall, an experienced pilot may be able to fly you around and land you very close to where you began. But it's more fun to travel down the valley.

Your trip plans may not allow you the time. You cannot keep a tight schedule in a balloon so bear that in mind.

If you can do it, try hard for a dawn flight, there's nothing like that.

You WILL be very cold before liftoff, standing in a windy field. Then, under the burners, it's perfect.

You can usually arrange to help crew the balloon. If you can, agree to help set up but not crew afterwards. Setting up a balloon is such an experience in itself, I recommend it. So is chasing and packing up but not if you're pressed for time.
 
I used to live next to a smaller liftoff field. Unlucky me was living from a student income, unable to go with one.

Will drop them a mail, and see what we can arrange, and in what timeframe they need comfirmation for the reservations (we'll know for sure that we'll make a sunrise once we enter TX I guess). We'll have time for a days rest from driving here and there.

PS - A well-maintained balloon with an experienced pilot is very safe.

Your instructions will be simple, follow what the pilot says exactly, and the main thing is to not enter or exit until told because takeoff and landing is all about weight control.

It's really VERY hard to have an accident when you're flying what amounts to a huge parachute. And people on the ground know balloons here. :)

Keep your legs springy for landing, you're likely to bounce a few times but that's actually fun too.

September ought to be perfect weather for you.
 
TTTHE weather is SO BAD here today and must be like 5000000000 billion degrees that I was going MAD and CrAzy talking to the "little elves" in my closet today and asked them to keep the noise down or they will disturb the neighbors when they are throwing things at each other:

When I went to work yesterday and put on the Sprinkler for the little buggers - they digged how a grown man JUMPED like crazy joining them with the sprinkler like I had been released from jail!

03bluecoupe.. Supposed to snow again today (story of our winter). I'm between Albany and Saratoga. We got 18" or so Thurs./Fri. after 10" in the previous storm. I had to navigate off my road that had 8-10" on it Friday AM.

THIS is what I remember winters being like when I was younger but, I'll be honest, I LOVE this weather. This is why I love living where I do, we get 4 actual seasons.

Oh boy. With today's snow we have now moved into third place (third snowiest winter EVER). I say let's NOT go for the gold. :mad:
 
With today's snow we'll move into our top 10 snowiest February, I think we might move to #6 if it goes as expected. If we get no more snow the rest of the season we'll STILL be above the 30-year average for the season.

Too bad we can't get a convoy of trucks to send some snow to Northern CA, they could really use the liquid. I know of a few LARGE piles (think footprint of football field 20-30 feet high in at least one case) that could be "shipped". We'll have piles sticking around into June at this point...
 
I hear ya mplevy, but the older I get the more I hate it. 3 seasons would be good. ;) Now, if I didn't have to shovel the crap it'd be tolerable but I could do without it.

Had 30 acres in Stratford but sole it 'cause between the snow and blackflies, it wasn't usable a whole lot. ;)

Oh man going to want to make me go down there...wait my grandma once said you can put on more clothes to get warm but can't take enough off to get cool just remember that in the summer
