What's your next phone?

Hi all. I'm starting to think about what my next phone is going to be. For the first time ever with the S3, I'm experiencing real problems, including freezes where I need to do a battery pull to get the phone working again.

I'm looking at the S5 (hopefully the new 3GB version comes to the U.S.) and the Nexus line. I'd love to get the OnePlusOne, but I'm on Verizon and don't want to switch. Any other great devices to put on the short list? Thanks in advance.

Ditch the S5;

HTC M8
Xperia Z2
Mate has the latest Nexus and I think he wants to marry it!!

Or root the S3 and see if that fixes the issue.

Upgraded to the Nexus 5 and I too would marry it :D

Also rooted my S3 after getting the N5, what a difference it makes when you strip away all the touchwiz baggage.

Between the LG G3 and S5 Prime, or whatever they call it. Also hearing rumors of an M8 with better camera. G3 is a little shaky for me as I don't want 5.5".

I will actually consider the new iphone if it's a knockout but I doubt I will consider it very long if they keep charging $100 for extra storage.

I think I am going to get off the upgrade subsidy wagon and switch to AT&T Mobile Share and save a few bucks. Therefore I might keep my S3 for awhile, and the next phone I buy, I will buy from Ebay or get something cheaper than whatever the brand new $650 is at the time.

Only prob I have is my battery is getting weak, but I am fixing that with a new Samsung battery I just ordered. Honestly my S3 does whatever I need it to, and since Samsung keeps making the total form factors LARGER every time, I'm not incentivized to get something that is "smaller and lighter with the same screen" which would be a primary motivation for me

I'm not upgrading yet. Just got KK on my phone this week. I'm probably going to wait another year or so.

By the time my contract is over the Galaxy S6 will be out so I'll be getting that :D

Haha right! My S3 is ok for now, contract is close enough, but I don't see anything that impresses me really for my needs. Most seem to be nickel & diming the minor screen sizes, slight processor speeds, little gadgets here & there. One day Samsung will wise up and build a brutally tough phone for the adventure seekers, alum or kevlar base/shell, IPX-8 water resistant rating, etc, etc.

Haha yeah I hope they manage a way to make their phones faster too.

When I signed my 2 year contract with t-mobile 2 years ago and got my s3, I had planned to upgrade to an s5 this summer....but t-mobile doesn't do contracts anymore and charges almost $700 for an s5 or any other phone that would be a significant upgrade. Looks like I'm never going to get the latest and greatest phone again, since all of the carriers in the U.S. rip you off one way or another. Maybe I'll upgrade to an outdated s5 when the s7 comes out. For now, I just got a new battery and will eek this s3 (non-lte, so no kitkat) with 4.3 until I win a lottery and can afford something better. Thanks for starting a thread where I could whine. :-)

I think I'm going to look at something else other than a Samsung. The mess with the bad updates is just too much to take. Plus I heard Samsung is one of the worst with all the bloatware.

I might look at LG again. I very nearly got a Droid HD Maxx when I chose the S3.

I'm undecided at the moment. HTC M8 looks good except for the questionable camera. I'm not impressed with the GPS performance of my S3 so I'm leary of another Samsung phone. The LG G3 is another contender, but I wonder about the QHD display being a power hog.

I think I'm going to wait to see if the Xperia Z2 makes it to VZN, or if one of the "prime" variants of the G3, S5, M8 see the light of day.

the happiest people seems to be those with the Nexus line. So. if I do make a change that's what it's gonna be.

My upgrade is coming next month. I moved on to the S3 from the HTC Incredible just so I could keep unlimited data before Verizon got rid of it. I was ready to upgrade next month since the power button hasn't been working properly. The KitKat update somehow fixed it. I thought it was a hardware issue...

Anyway, now that I've bought some time, I've thought about an M8 variant if it got a better camera, or a Note 4 whenever that comes out. I've also thought about the Z2 if it ever gets to Verizon. Then again, I'd hate to lose unlimited data and pay full price for a phone. Maybe I won't get anything!

In summary, my next phone won't be a Samsung. They're reputation took a plunge when they screwed up the 4.3 update and the service I received when trying to get it fixed was dire. (How do they expect me to answer my mobile when it doesn't work!).

I'm on the Three network in the UK and looking at getting a sim only contract and buying the G3, Nexus 5 (or 6 if it's released by the time my contract is up), or the Oneplusone outright.

something with an SD slot and a removable battery, probably not on Verizon . I'm leaning towards a gs3 on virgin mobile at the moment.

Ditto. That is a pre-requisite for me. I fear one day that won't be available.

I'm waiting for the Note 4. But then of course, depends on what it's like then.

My GS3 is doing pretty good now. Have 4.4.3 from Task360 on XDA,and it's performing pretty good now.

My GS3 has been reborn with a new Samsung battery....I'm back to much less worry about battery drain. I keep eyeing picking up a GS4 or something on Ebay, still might, but deciding if it is really worth the extra 100-200 bucks (net after I sell my GS3 back on Ebay). Honestly beyond the "new toy" feeling, probably not I'd think. I never feel that my GS3 is laggy or buggy or anything right now.

Might be a stupid answer but the next phone I want isn't out yet lol. I don't know what it will be but I want a minimum of 3GB of RAM and a nice GPU without breaking the bank. I know phones like that are out but as of now they are high end phones and cost as much as some used cars. So my next phone will be decided when 3+ GB of RAM is mainstream.

Upgraded to a Nexus 5 three weeks ago. Huge improvement over an S3. Finally able to really appreciate project butter on one of the best devices around. The S3, even on AOSP, isn't smooth due the hardware composer not working.

On a side note, tried the S5 for a couple of days. Horrible experience to be honest.

I also got a new battery for my GS3. It's an extended battery, too.
