Root when booting CM7 I lose desktop settings

I rebooted today and lost Google widget, android agenda widget and Beautiful clock/weather widget and some other settings. Is this normal.

The only work around I have seen is to do a backup before booting but I have not personally tested this yet. A pain.

Shouldn't happen. This would happen if widgets are moved to SD but a couple sound like system apps coming with the rom.

Are you using theme chooser? If so, does it also happen on the default theme?

Am using ADWLauncher EX and using Matte ADW theme.
None are on SD Card
The other widget that went walkabout was New & Weather (News)

Now by default theme are you referring to ADW default or CM7 default ?

He means the CM7 default theme (via the "Theme Chooser" app).

Theme chooser gives just three options and I have selected 1/3..Androidian.

The homescreen still looked the same after doing this.

I rebooted and all the same widgets have Problem loading widget and a coupld of other shortcuts have disappeared. The dockbar has gone back to a very basic one.

When I click on home it comes up with "Complete actions using: Adw Launcher and ADW Launcher EX. "

By selecting the latter it brings back most of the layout and icons I had on screen but the same 4 widgets noted above would not load.

Odd.

(I have been looking for a diagram of a mobile with the OS, layers and apps showing the dependencies etc. Eg android/CM7/Launcher/Apps etc. )

Try pressing the home button again, but before selecting ADW Launcher Ex click the check box which says to make this the default action. Without that it is probably reverting to ADW (which is the built in launcher) on boot, which would explain a lot of the changes - each different launcher has its own layout, so if you want to stick with Ex you should make it the default.

As for the remaining 4 widgets, the reason SUroot was asking about the CM7 theme is that the theme chooser certainly used to be a bit buggy (I've not had it on my phone for months, so can't say whether anything's improved), and the bug would usually manifest after a reboot if you were using a theme other than the "default". Androidian isn't the default. So to eliminate this as a cause, you could try selecting the default theme, setting up the widgets, then rebooting - if the problem is still there I guess the theme chooser is in the clear, otherwise this may be the cause.

Thanks Hadron. Whenever the option between ADW and ADW EX comes up I preselect the box to make it the default action, but because I keep getting asked this, I suspect it may not be "sticking".

I cannot see an option for a default CM7 theme. Could I just delete the Theme chooser app?

Could I also remove ADW?

Later: I have just found a thread regarding removing ADW and will check that out. For other readers, it is here: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/13884-remove-adw-launcher/

Default will be there in theme chooser. This basically uses the existing frameworks as the theme instead of using theme chooser themes. It must be there or its broken.

Try clear data on theme chooser then reflash the Rom. This may also fix issues with adw which I believe is part of the Rom.

I would also recommend trying go launcher as imho its better, than adw by quite a lot

Interestingly Theme Chooser is totally greyed out in Applications Management. In Theme Chooser app one of the three options is "System" which is perhaps what you both refer to as the Default. I noted that Themes Provider is still alive though with active options of Force Stop and Clear Data.

Before I reflash, I will try golauncher ex again...(I have tried it previously) just to see if this fixes it. Then we will know that the issue is probably between ADW and ADWex.

Later: Tried that, and go launcher does not lose the widgets on reboot, so I think it is an issue between ADW stock and the version of ADW Ex I was running.

sorry, try setting as "system". Its been such a long time since i used theme chooser. I stopped using it because my widgets in widget locker kept disappearing after reboot. Hence why I am so for you to set it as the default "system" ;)

did you?

hi muzzman

warning! i wouldnt use ADW anymore as it failed on me recently while on cm7 - it totally stuffed up my phone and i had to reflash the rom! shame as i had used it for a long time - im now on Go launcher and finding that good

cheers

Yes...I set it to System. However the same issues are present and I believe this is a conflict between ADW and ADW EX. I have installed Go Launcher (again) but there are elements I don't like such as the inability to resize the dock and dock icons and lack of invisible/visible dock bar) etc. I gather Cyanogen is working on the dock size and is included in the latest nightlies - but I haven't checked this personally.

Now that I have two other browsers I am going to try removing ADW the go back to EX.

Dan, have you tried ADW EX since reflashing? Did you try removing ADW using less dramatic methods?

and lack of invisible/visible dock bar

Dont know what you.mean by this. You can have a dock background or not. Not = invisible. Same with icons. You can make transparent ones.

Go beats every other launcher by quite a lot. Adw is stone age

or you can enable a gesture to hide it

hi guys,

@muzzman - thinking about i dont think ive tried adw ex again since going dgb11 - but after my last experience i dont think i will be! :o
Ive not managed to remove adw but dont need the space so probably wont bother.

as i recall, i think adw ex has a few more dock/icon features compared to Go - i did used to like adw, but i cant have my launcher totally stuffing up my phone - too scary for me :D

cheers

Ok, perhaps hidden / unhidden would be more accurate. With ADW EX you can pull down the dock bar to hide it and pull up again much like the notification blind.

I haven't discovered his yet! What I have found is that Go Launcher is going to make the Dockbar and dockbar icons resizable so that will no doubt mean I move across.

you can hide the dog bar via gestures. ive just done it.
go into prefs, operation settings

Just to finish the thread. I have moved to Go Launcher EX and it is stable on my setup. I understand there are plans with Go Launcher to make the icon size and dock bar size able to be changed as in ADW so I will look forward to that. Thanks for the advice.

im having the exact same issues, except ive been using launcherpro from the start

it wont remember default settings or anything. for example, in maps, i have it set to load latitude and traffic, but it forgets this everytime i open the program, as though its opening for the first time.

and not a single widget loads. just spots where they were saying Problem Loading Widget

Mine does it too, I just get the space where the widget should be with the text "problem loading widget." I have to re-add them again. Minor nuisance because I reboot it so infrequently.

Just tried this again using ADWLauncher (which comes with Cyanogen) and all is well. Only an issue when I changed launcher to Go Launcher.
