For the best chance at a smooth update, do not root now. I never rooted ( came real close once and stopped the download, move file to pc) and just had a perfect update. I have no problems that the former rooters have. If you really know what your doing, it. One thing but if you do it because all the cool kids are, you might do more harm than good. Update is knocking at your door, root later if you must.I know. It's just been thoughts right now. I'm quite sure that when/if I decide to root, 2.1 will be hacked and ready for me. LOL

I've actually been thinking about rooting because of all the reviews about being able to overclock and have a faster/smoother phone. Don't get me wrong, I have no problems with my phone, but if I can get 5-7 home screens and use some of my "heavier" apps without much (if any at all) lag, I would be very happy.
I am waiting for the update, but rooting has been a thought.

Got my update Saturday morning. Downloaded it and restarted the phone. Never went past the "Droid" screen. Verizon said to switch out the phone and said I now have to wait for the update to hit the new phone, could take a couple weeks. I know I can force it, but I was kind of hoping they could force it to my phone, but the data support team said no.
Wife got it though and she does not care, lol.

I woke up to the update today. What a birthday present!
I changed from Home++ to HelixLauncher because Home++ doesn't support live wallpapers and I do miss the flip calendar and clock, a lot. Does anyone know if there is a good app/widget for that?

EDIT: I was talking to a coworker who also had a droid and he pointed me to "Retro Clock Widget by jSource" and am liking it quite a lot. It's not the same as the one in Home++, but it is quite similar. Plus, the date is only 2x1 and the time is 2x1. I like this better because it looks better than the 4x4 analog clock that is stock with the droid.

My son got it several days ago, but mine is just doing it now--my question is HOW LONG TILL IT FINISHES? And to anwer your question-YES to live wallpaper and it's cool!
