Help When will the Boost Mobile Moto G get the Lollipop update?

Dobvius

Lurker
The Moto G Lollipop update came out today on unlocked phones. But if you, like me, have a locked version, it will take longer. My question is this: I have a Boost Mobile version of the Moto G (2013). When will I get Android 5.0 (Lollipop)?

Well you can say its time for a new phone but keep in mind the following... Only 30% of the Android ecosystem is running 4.4.X and only 8% of those handsets are 4.4.4. So you're already at the top of the ecosystem. Personally I'll wait for the OTA (Maybe even hold off till the next update. There's lots of reported issues across several hardware variants.)

Really? The numbers are that low? Wow.

My 2013 unlocked GSM version hasn't gotten it yet, either. I'm waiting patiently for it (all the while hoping it comes yesterday :D ).

I had an update to my 'Moto Update Service' which said that update is to enable the 5.0/L to happen - checking daily, but daresay this will happen sooner rather than later

Your boost mobile moto g got an update to the update services?

I somehow find it hard to believe that it was a boost moto g. As far as I know and could be wrong the boost variant wouldn't need to update the moto updater as the update won't come directly from moto. It will be pushed thru boost/sprint as a carrier update. I may be wrong though.

Yeah because so far with what I've been reading, there's a soak test in India and they are getting the update for the update services

Interesting. Play Store says Moto Update Service is not compatible with my Moto G. I have Moto Contextual Services installed on my device though.

I think that's the case because of the fact that it's only available to those participating in the soak tests
I'm not participating in the soak test, but I got the update. I'm using the unlocked GSM XT1034 version (1st gen). Now, I'm still on 4.4.4

As I said before the lollipop update for the boost version is not coming from moto. It is a carrier branded handset. The update will be coming from sprint/boost. The Motorola update tool would be useless here. Also it will probably get the update later than the others to because it will go to sprint first sprint will add there stuff to it and then release it. A carrier branded handset doesn't follow the same rules as an unlocked device. You can't compare what one got over another. Totally different ballgame.

Also the idea that there doing a soak test is odd to. What are they testing? Its the same exact phone as the 2014 moto g just a smaller display and a camera with less megapixels. It will run exactly the same as it does on the 2014 g.

does anyone know if there is a generic cdma moto rom? Might be better if there was a generic cdma so people could update when they like it.
Or I guess there isn't a way to convert a cdma moto g into a google play edition?

Yes moto sends it to sprint then sprint releases it. Thats how carrier phones work. Thats why when you look at the update page on the moto site it says clearly at the bottom "pending carrier participation". Go through your all apps list and see how many either say boost or sprint on them. Youd be surprised how much they actually add to the software.

Thanks all for the responses. Sad thing is that the boost moto g only got 4.4.4 about 3-4 months after everyone else. That's why I'm a bit worried. Let's hope it's soon. Early January-ish would be good.
