Help When will the Boost Mobile Moto G get the Lollipop update?

In the description it says this is to get your phone ready for the update to 5.0.

So far it has only updated specific aspects of the phone, such as a new gallery (maybe 5.0's gallery, not sure), the camera software, and one or two other things that were Motorola software. About half my apps also updated immediately after the Motorola Updater finished installing. Not sure if that was a coincidence or not.

Since I have boost, and it is prepaid, it will probably be awhile before I get 5.0, but I have a friend with Verizon, who has the 1st gen moto g, and he got the Motorola update service update around the same time as me. His moto g finally got the 5.0 update 2 or 3 days ago and he loves it.

Motorola does have a section on their site where you can look up your phone, put in your carrier, and it will tell you if and when you will get the update. For boost it still says they are waiting for the carrier to say when it will be released. I hope this helps!

Now hold on. I have the 2013 moto g for Verizon and I have no update yet.
How did your friend get a lollipop update nearly 2 weeks ago and I'm still on KitKat?
Am I missing something?
 
I don't understand the delay at this point.
It was understable back in January and 5.0.1 when the talk of the town was the lollipop memory leak. But its up to 5.1 now with 5.1.1 around the corner. What is the holdup?

There is literally no excuse at this point in damn June of 2015 for this phone not to have Android L.
They keep saying it coming, they keep saying Moto X and Moto E are getting it too but where is it?
 
Well in a nutshell its this...the XT1031 has a current soak test we've all read about it we've all seen the leaks. One has to assume (being of a reasonable mind and having kept up with the rapid fire releases to AOSP to fix various bugs with 5.0-5.1.1) they're scrapping a 5.0.2 release in favor of 5.1.1 ... It just makes on sense given what we know. The fact that a 18 month old non Nexus device will see three android versions is unheard of.

I would say the chances are very good. There's a lot of buzz about it in certain circles...I think Motorola has been wise to slow the rollout given the amount of serious issues plaguing previous builds.

Not unheard of at all. Both the s3 and s4 saw 3 android versions. The s3 shipped with ICS and ended on kit kat. The s4 with jelly bean and now lollipop and very well could see a 4th version.

Well I should have been more clear...those are flagship devices ... The Moto G is a lower end device primarily available on prepaid MVNOs, which seldom see any support from OEMs or carrier partners.

Yea. But you can also argue that the g is motos flagship also. It outsells any other device they make. Guess it depends on if someone considers a flagship based on high specs or sales. It is deff Motos workhorse device though.

Yeah as a rule people base the buzz word "flagship" on OEMs annual spec beasts lol...I agree the G is/was the most popular phone Motorola has and it has a huge developer following but with the 3rd gen coming soon and Moto E with 64 bit architecture, SD card expansion and LTE at a similar price point I believe this will likely be the last update the first Gens will see. But for what it was spec and price point its had a great run as far as official support(Especially since MVNOs are cheap & not keen on spending money on updates.) compared to a lot of devices out there.
 
Well, my boost Mobile moto g received another Motorola updater update a week or two ago. A couple seconds ago my phone updated to clock to the 5.0 version of the clock, so at least there is progress toward the final 5.0 upgrade lol. From what I understand there will be small updates like this until they finally release the ota 5.0 update. As for boost saying they are waiting for Motorola, I have also seen posts where Motorola is waiting on boost Mobile. Sounds like they need to get their info straight and figure this out lol.

Um....no. The Desk Clock update is from Google, not Motorola. Just a simple app update.

As far as Lollipop is concerned, we're still in a "Test Drive", so be patient, it is coming.

Exactly, with like webview etc a lot of the Android OS system applications will be following this trend.
 
Well, google is the creator of android. Everything I have read when looking up stuff about this new clock says it is the clock used in 5.0 only. The Motorola updater software update was through google play store as well, so does that mean Motorola did not release their own update for the updater? No, it just means they used the google play store to send out the update. Also, when the test and updates started it was said that small updates would be done to get the phone ready for 5.0 and to make the final update faster and the main OTA update to 5.0 will take less time to download and install than the full 5.0 because you have most of the small updates already done. Other people I know with boost phones that are not Motorola, but have kit kat, have not received this clock update. Also the OTA update to lollipop will not come from Motorola either. Motorola will send it to boost, and boost will send it OTA.

Basically what I am saying is it does not matter where the update came from, google play, boost, or Motorola, it is a step toward lollipop.

The Desk Clock is a Google app and has nothing to do with Motorola or a Lollipop upgrade. They (Google) simply made it compatible with lower firmware.

When Lollipop is ready (and its not), Motorola (not Boost) will release it in a single OTA, and not in incremental updates.

Again - there's no conspiracy, we're still testing firmware and it's almost ready, just a few more bugs to be worked out.


EDIT: I also want to add, the reason your friends aren't seeing the Desk Clock update, could be due to them using device with modified firmware like Samsung, HTC, LG, etc. These device use there own in-house designed apps.

Motorola uses the stock, unmodified AOSP apps, which are made by Android.

Agreed and seconded. I feel that the brands "Google" and "Android" are becoming less synonymous. Google apps as we've seen are becoming proprietary and a pia to modify and theme(which I'm sure ATTACK can confirm)...while Android/AOSP still can operate independently of Google applications and be modified as usual.
Seems like I remember back in the day with the G1 my original Droid I remember the adverts and such as "Google Android". I don't know if it just makes it easier for OEMs with their own skins etc but that's my thought.

I'd strongly disagree. If anything Google is integrated into Android more than ever now. Look at all the new Android m features. How many of them were Google now enhancements or Google search enhancements for your phone. If anything the deeper integration of Google now makes aosp roms harder to be totally free of Google. Yes you can run an aosp rom without any Google apps but who would want to now? Sure you can sideload apps without a play store but why? Google is making it harder and harder for the aosp side to be truly independent of any Google influence. Android is more Google than its ever been.

AOSP can, has been and always will be able to run independently of GApps.
GApps and now more and more former system apps are being built as stand alone apps available in playstore. AOSP will run perfectly well and Google free and you can use alternate maps, search, app stores etc. There are lots of alternatives for nearly everything Google offers. Some actually quite better in a lot of ways. This is how users have a non Google Android experience should they choose. (I know several people who do...they love Android and dislike Google.)

I agree it can be done. Not saying it can't. But Google is implementing more and more of there own features into everything Android does. Most people who love Android and dislike Google are mainly developers who have there own ideas and agendas on how they feel Android should be and there's nothing wrong with that. But Google is deff making it harder and harder to avoid them even in aosp roms. The good parts of Android are all Google products.

Well playing Devil's advocate...the term "Google Experience" is what the majority of users have always considered a pure Android experience typically Nexus and Moto series. No OEM skins, carrrier bloat etc...just Google paired with AOSP. That being said in terms of evolution of an operating system Google along with AOSP are doing what they must to stay viable and compete with the operating systems out there, specifically iOS.(In terms of UI cosmetics, fluidity and features.) So in that respect I concede to your earlier point.
Now that we have that out of the way most of us who root, rom and mod our devices can use as much or as little Google features as we we like. Myself I use a minimal GApps package and install whatever else Google I want from Playstore. Average users look at the Google integration as an advancement on the "Google Experience"...but for root users its business as usual. [emoji4]

Well mine went very strange phone shut off after the DL of the update and didn't boot back up to install had to go to safe mode and check system update again and from there it worked awesome. Total space lost overall was like 100mb and I was not using the new ART. Also can now use the otg cable with my flash drive now before I only could use my wireless key board and mouse via USB dongle.
 
Not sure how you aren't using ART, it replaced Dalvik in Lollipop. o_O

I lost about 470MB of free space after upgrading to Lollipop, would be nice to recover that space since there's only 5GB available to the user.

In 4.4 you have the option to use dalvik or art. When I first got the moto g I switched to ART and lost a 1gb of space but the phone ran really buttery smooth. Needed the space so ib switched it back to dalvik. I figured I would lose the 400-1024mb when fully updated but no. Now I am happy to be able to use my otg cable and flash drive for storage of my big files.
