When would you consider rooting to get Froyo?

rooting was easy for me, just take your time and read,read,read up on it.
do your homework and you'll be fine.
I wasnt too comfortable about doing it, but it all went well.
I even un-rooted it tonight just in case the upgrade come out this week

I've been rooted since we had to stand on one leg, pushing the SD card in and out while saying 5 Hail Marys.

ROFL - me too, though I was late in the game, I think unrevoked2 came out within a week of my rooting.

There's very little risk in bricking your phone from rooting. Flashing radios is where some risk lies and nobody says you have to do that.

I'm not trying to talk anybody into anything tho. If you are one that absolutely thinks you shouldn't do it then you are right, skip it. It does take a little willingness to learn a few things about the process, what it involves and what possibilities it entails. It's best to want it and not just do it because you can.

I did it because I could - but that's just me I like to tinker. I was happy with 2.1, but even happier with my Frankenrom 2.2.

Not to sound like a company man or anything, but the Roms are not 100 percent perfect just like VZW's updates so far have not been perfect. When Froyo hits VZW it will be perfect. No patch updates, no flashing new roms, just pure good perfect working OS.

Granted I love to tinker with my phone, so what I say doesn't really count for me, but if your considering the root option and you are expecting perfect forget it and just wait. Your really not missing out on much at this point. The phone is extremely capable as is.

I will probably try this weekend. It now seems almost as simple as upgrading my blackberry which I tend to do when a new crack comes out. What could go wrong?

Honestly, I wouldn't follow that guide. A lot of it is now unnecessary and could simply cause confusion.

I followed it yesterday and am now running FrankenRom (b5) and loving it. Yeah some of it is a little bit old but I was able to use it to get everythiing done. I did have to download the dinc_ota.zip from another source, and there are a few little spots where you wonder if you are doing things exactly right, as well as a spot or two where the phone takes a while to do its stuff and you wonder if it is frozen (it wasn't), but otherwise I appreciated the guide. It could stand to be refined a bit but it was good enough that I threw the guy $5 for the whole kit and kaboodle (root info + froya update info + froyo apps stuff). I had been hesitant even though I've been a "computer junkie" since the early 80's, but I'm so glad I took the plunge. Your mileage may vary.

Yup it is a 2.2 rom based off the leak but it has sense stripped from it. Now if you remember that leak had a lot of bugs in it but this developer went through and optimized everything so now there are literally NO BUGS. Its faster, cleaner, easier to use. Its amazing. The whole process took about 20 min plus however long it takes you to set up all your settings and stuff. Heres a quick outline of the process:

1a - Unrevoked3 to gain root
1b - Nandroid backup using ClockworkMod
2 - UnrevokedForever to allow non signed code
3 - Flash 2.15xxx radio (get that here: http://adrynalyne.stfuthxbye.net/rad...28/PB31IMG.zip)
4 - Instal ROM Manager from market
5 - Download SkyRaider 2.5.2 (sense or vanilla, your choice)
6 - chose options to wipe phone then install

Well, I didn't last as long as I thought. I just rooted and flashed the SkyRaider 2.5.2 Sense. It's definitely worth it and not hard at all. I just followed guides form the sticky in the root subforum.

I have to agree with everyone. I was frustrated this weekend and my 32gb card came on Monday so I rooted Monday night and applied SkyRaider 2.5.2. With the ROM Manager installed it is very simple to update and switch roms.
