i'm only using it to store pictures and movies, not running apps off it
wut class do i need? i know class 10 sounds tempting and costly but will class 4 do it?

A Class 2 Sandisk card is fine, or a Class 4 card from other brands.

(If you search this forum you'll see lots of information, I've made some lengthy posts in the past about why Class 2 Sandisk is fine, don't want to replicate that here)

would u be kind enough to link that info

Hi there,

I would say class 10, because you would be recording in 1080p and taking pictures with the 8 megapixel camera. It saves quickly to card compared to lesser ones. That is what I found after a long time surfing the net.

this is what I got....
INOV8 16GB CLASS 10 MICRO-SD MEMORY CARD MICRO SDHC UK | eBay

Completely wrong and misinformed post, sorry, but I see this everywhere and it is simply not true.

You can read what I wrote about this issue here, if you want to make a rational and informed decision:
Samsung Galaxy S II – Real User Review Part 5: Bugs, battery life, camera, telephony, conclusion Clove Technology’s Blog

Thanks for the info, you are correct and so is the article, but in the past on my stand alone 8mp camera i had a class 2 sdhc card sandisk, but is was slow to write to, when I got myself a class 10 card I was taking pictures much faster as it was saving the images much faster.
So I do stand by what I stated because I have experienced it first hand and of course I can afford it as the article says. lol

Write speeds on a Class 2 Sandisk are 5.5MB/s - larger than any photo the SGSII takes. So while a Class 10 will definitely save quicker, that difference is unlikely to be worth the price difference for anybody where price is an important issue.

Obviously if you can afford Class 10 then go ahead and be happy!

I would go for class 4 with a trusted brand such as sandisk waste of money to go for class 10. I read a big thread at xda forums and the conclusion was that class 4 was enough for the galaxy s2. The most important thing if you ask me is getting a real card

can u save video recordings directly onto sd card? i thought it goes onto dcim folder on phone first

You can choose where to save to from within the camera settings, a Class 2 Sandisk card write speed is still sufficient for 1080p video capture.

I think you may have sorted this already, but in case you haven't: yes, it is definitely possible to save to the external SD.

Be aware that those read and write speeds are not the end of the story - you need to use something like Crystaldiskmark to get all the information. Those speeds refer only to large sequential read/writes. I've found all non-Sandisk cards suffer immensely once you're starting to do smaller read/writes.

You are correct,it is a matter of affordability, but class 10 is the best to have.;)

I read somewhere that to get the card to class 10 it loses read speed and some lower class cards have a higher read speed cause of this. i don't know why you need a class 10 for a phone

For example to wait 5x less time (approximately) when you copy your music collection or TV series from your PC to your phone.

When in the morning, before work you suddenly realize that you get bored on Fri of all of the music/movies on your device and you have just couple of minutes to leave  - every minute counts!

Plus, 22.50 for a good companies memory card is not that much, is it?

samsung isn't necesssarily a good brand when it comes to memory card as they are not known for making them. would u buy a phone made by scandisk?

I understand your point. Partially. Lets not start dispute on Samsung experience with SD cards.

They have experience with them, starting with xD Picture cards, also Samsung manufactures DDR memory. Dig a bit in samsung history and you will find their connection with SD cards. Also i suppose we will know what kind of card is it when first tests will appear:

"The cards were developed by Olympus and Fujifilm, and introduced into the market in July 2002. Toshiba Corporation and Samsung Electronics manufacture the cards for Olympus and Fujifilm. xD cards are sold under other brands, including Kodak, SanDisk, PNY, and Lexar, but are not branded with the respective companies' logos, except for Kodak."
