Which HTC?

I'm looking for a replacement for my HTC Desire. Unfortunately, I'm thoroughly confused by which model to get. They all seem quite similar to me.

Incredible S
Desire S
Desire HD

Which is a logical successor for the Desire?

Many thanks.

The logical successor would be the Desire S, mostly because it is just the Desire: Improved.
I dont really like the back cover of the incredible S, and I personally believe the Desire HD is way too big imo.

Ofcourse,this is just my opinion.
I wish we had another phone with the Desire's hardware. (perhaps with Gorilla glass, Sensor, hard buttons and a trackpad)

All the 3 phones are essentially the same, except they offer different screen sizes. Desire S has the same 3.7" display as Desire, so it is as close as it gets to be a successor.

The incredible s has a bigger screen and a better front and back camera than the desire s. Apart from that they are basically exactly the same.

The Desire HD compared to the incredible hd, pretty much the same with the HD having a larger screen but no front facing camera.

Thanks for all your replies. I thought I was missing something. What about in terms of value? Any opinions?
Probably the cheapest of them offers the greater value - Desire S.
Then again, the better cameras in Incredible S and the larger screen size could be more appreciated by others.
Desire HD is older, expensive and has weaker battery life (probably also the worst display quality). However, many custom ROMs make it still attractive.

Desire HD is the cheapest, thus is the best value imo.

Could I ask why are you restricting yourself to HTC?

I'm quite new to the Android scene. From what little I know, it seems that HTC Sense is the best out there.

Do you have a better recommendation?

Thanks for sharing.

That depends on the country in question.
Practically, HTC sells 3 very similar phones with different screen sizes - DHD, IS, Desire S (replacing Desire). As far as I can see from the market prices, the larger the screen size, the more expensive the phones are.

if the DHD and the S are the same resolution, but the S has a smaller screen (higher DPI), I could never go for a DHD.

My thoughts exactly.
Desire (S) screen has 252 PPI (Pixels Per Inch), while DHD has only 217 PPI. That is a large difference.
Just for the comparison: iphone 4 display has 326 PPI...

That really shouldn't be the key to your decision. The key should be which screen size you prefer. The HD is cheaper because it was brought out earlier.

That used to be the case, back when android was in an earlier state. It really isn't any more.

I can base my decision on whatever I like ;) ;) ;)

If I want a high quality display and the higest quality display is the smaller screen, and that smaller screen is big enough to do what want, I'd got for that.

I'd pick a 46" 1080p over a 50" 1080p TV (or even a 46" 720p).

Yet I would pick a 46" 1080p over a 37" 1080p.

It all depends on if 46" is big enough.

I dont want my smartphone to have the screen size of a nokia 2330, regardless of its DPI.

In summary, Size matters to an extent, but there comes a certain point where quality matters more (for me)

Lol, i mean generally, not you specifically :p

What I was trying to say is that the quality of picking a 4.3" over a 4" because they are the same resolution should not be the defining factor in making your choice.

I can't believe you compared the Desire HD's screen to the Nokia 2330 btw......!!

I couldnt think of an android smartphone with a screen much smaller than the desire :)

Hero I suppose I should have said. But thats not too small either.

So, rewind....

"I wouldnt want a screen smaller than the HTC Hero, even if it had the same resolution as the desire"

;)

Just my view but... is it really worth upgrading from the Desire to one of those phones? I really don't see any of them as a worthwhile upgrade, even through the Desire S is appealing.

I have a Desire and am not upgrading until I see a significant boost in hardware. I see most of the current Android phones as only marginally better than the Desire, not the generational leap I am waiting for.

But that's just me... personally I would recommend waiting, unless an upgrade is literally being forced on you.

It's a tricky one, there always seems to be something tasty coming out just around the corner. That is the thing with Android - you could be forever putting off the upgrade because of rumours/ upcoming phones!
Probably agree with the others though that this current crop just don't seem to be such a big jump from the Desire. Can you go to a shop and try them out in person? This is probably the best way to help you make your mind up.

EVO 3D dam that's a good phone !!
Dual core
Qhd 3d screen
1gb internal
Newest sense (with carousel scrolling )

Make me feel all tingly as well :)

I've got my phone for nigh on another two years, but the EVO 3D (or it's successor) might be in my sights when it's upgrade time.

How could you forget HTC Wildfire with its revolutionary 2.8" screen? ;)

That phone is heavy like a brick. I'd rather have the non-3D lighter phone (Pyramid?).
