I'm looking at trying a launcher besides ADW. I've seen ADW EX, Launcher Pro and Go Launcher. Which one is best? Most customizable? I've also read I might need something to set it as the default home app. Any recommendations on that? I'd like different dock bars to play with. Is that in any of those or is that separate widgets?

I like Go Launcher, it has up to 3 rows of 5 buttons in the dock.

I also like that the app launcher screen does horizontal scroll instead of just vertical.
 
For the most part, they all have about the same functionality, though there are a couple options that they'll each have that the others don't. Go Launcher has some extra widgets you can download, if you're into that. To get the full functionality out of ADW, you have to get the paid version. LauncherPro is no longer being actively developed so that's something you'll want to keep in mind. Best thing to do is to just try them all out yourself and see which one you like the best and which runs the smoothest for you.

And yes, the dock drawer is part of the launcher app, not a widget.

Just fyi, ADW can do this as well, and I believe LauncherPro can (but I'm not 100% sure on that). For both of them, you can customize the number of rows/columns on the homescreen, and you can also set the default orientation as portrait, landscape, or auto.
 
I like Go. It's free and it does the job (the job being lots of customization options and speedy/no lag scrolling).
 
So Go Launcher or Go Launcher EX? And do I need the Home Manager app to make it my default home app?

Never mind. I'm downloading EX. :D
 
No you don't need home manager, as soon as it installs and you hit the home button it will ask you which launcher you want to use and if you want to set it as your default.
 
Thanks, got it and it installed ok. Now I just have to figure out what I'm doing. :confused: :D
 
I used to use Go Launcher myself, but kept hearing good things about ADW. I decided to try it, and haven't bothered to switch back. I think ADW is faster, but ymmv.
 
I never thought ADW was slow I just wanted to try out something different with more options. I thought about getting ADW EX, and still might. I'm checking the free options first. I'm still learning GO but I like it so far.
 
After I wrote my last post last night ^^^ I went to bed and shut off my phone. IT locked up on the shutting down screen. Its never done anything like that. Could Go Launcher cause that or just a coincidence?
 
I'm liking Go Launcher. Although, I think I will buy ADW EX next and try it.

In Go Launcher, can you make the status bar transparent or not show at all. I've looked through everything and can't find it. It's transparent on my lock screen but not my desktop.

I'm not sure if it should be but I have and had no problems.

Since the OP, beside ADW, I've tried GoLauncher and ADW EX. ADW EX I wasn't really impressed with. Go Launcher is great. Tons of customizations.

But .. I always seem to come back to plain old ADW. With other apps like Circle Launcher, Simple Text, etc., I can make my home screen as desirable as I can with anything else.
