Root Which mod needed for inspire to work with .apk files?

Hi. My sister recently got an HTC inspire and needs to root it with a mod that will definitely work with .apk files. any ideas?

thanks!

A mod that will work with apk files?

Do you mean a root method via an apk? If so there is no such thing and never will be.

If she wants to just be able to install apk files you don't need to root to do this.

In normal android OS it's menu-settings-application settings-unknown sources check the box to enable.
HTC may have moved this to the security settings, don't remember it's been a while since I've ran htc stock os.

That's the problem. Her Inspire doesn't seem to have a "accept unknown sources" check box. is it in another pace on the phone. I have Huiwei Ascend and mine is easy to find.
Can you tell me where that function is on the Inspire?

thanks!

It was originally not an option on the inspire when it 1st came out, there was an AT&T over the air update a couple months later (april maybe) that allowed you this option.

Are you using the phone on something other than ATT? If you do settings about phone is it version 2.2xxx or 2.3xxx?

and check security settings and app development settings too, I know htc moved something to one or both those places with their gingerbread update, I can't remember if it was this.
