which prepaid?

bstimp

Newbie
I just bought (2) moto g for my wife and I. Need to scale back the cell phone expenses. I want to use a prepaid service and i am leaning toward the ATT side of GSM. I bought the US GSM model.

something like straight talk. are they good?

Anyone try Ultra? they have a credit for international calls which would help with my wifes calls.

lastly whats the best place to buy the micro sim?

thanks

1) Straight Talk is good - unless you need tech support. (Then you go to their Facebook page. Seriously.)

2) ST has an international plan - I believe it's $65/month.

3) Either order the SIMs from Straight Talk's site Straight AT&T SIMS.

4) And this should be first - make sure (check with friends, people in the supermarket, etc.), that AT&T has coverage where you need coverage. The greatest phone and plan in the world is useless if there's no coverage when you need it.

Aio is better than straight talk by leaps and bounds, higher throttle, non accented tech support, and deals relatively often. And 45 bucks auto renu required or its 5p, for 5gb high speed instead of 2.5 and the throttle is more than dubble the speed once over.

I recommend just about any GSM over CDMA. The 3G speed difference is gonna be big. After that...its easier to go to different GSM carriers with the same phone.

I plan on getting AIO/Cricket, or MetroPCS....waiting for the AT&T/Cricket details to be final. On Boost now and I knew it would suck....but didnt realize it would this much. Can barely get a data signal indoors.

It depends on the carrier. I'm with boost mobile who generally has terrible speeds. But I left a galaxy s3 for this phone and I'd literally be willing to bet money my cdma Motorola g is just as fast as a gsm one. But it's because of where I live as I'm pretty close to a tower. Away from home its slower. I have wifi at home but I like to test my signal from time to time

Aio rocks.

Most Verizon so called cdma devicds can be ported to gsm service, atleadt with the three I have workded with, just check gsm arena for antenna specs. [And xda for gsm roms]

so im clear if i go with AIO do i need their sim card? or can i buy a att sim card

You always need the sim from the spesific mvno carrier you want to opporate with. I was just saying that they run on the at&t network as mvno stands for mobile vertual network opporator. Their network is not real but at&t network is, so they lease/buy bulk air time and sell it back to you. As a large purchaser they have more negotiating power over pricing.

As for the other part of this question, sim cards are encrypted and repeated attempts to break that encryption will lock/destroy the sim. This means that unless a carrier gives its ecryption protocals away to another carrier, or yoh, both unwise choices, you would not be able to port a sim, and realy why would aio want you to when they sell them for 10 dollars.

Now that the "New" Cricket wireless is up and running has anyone gotten an unlocked Moto G (purchased directly from Motorola) working on their prepaid plan?

I'm torn between the Verizon prepaid or Cricket. The Verizon is only $50 at Best buy this week, the Boost is $99.... and for me, an extra $50 is a big issue.
I mostly use wifi, so I'm not worried about speeds or throttling caps.
So which would you all recommend? From what I've read, it's easier to root the Boost version, right? Which phone comes with more bloatware?

Boost is having a $100 credit deal of thou switched carriers & kept your number.. That's what I did.. Only had to pay the tax on it & first month of service.. Which totalled & 58 bucks activated. 😎

When you want to try a different carrier for prepaid, do you accept the phone number they give you? I'm with T-Mobile now but wouldn't mind trying one or two different carriers just to see how well their service is compared to Tmo.

I have the MG I purchased from Motorola.

Thnx.

I was looking at getting an unlock Moto G from Motorola direct. Was going to try either Circket or Straight Talk. Any one have any experience there?

If you download/stream with mobile data, you should avoid straight talk.

As downloading/streaming violates their TOS and will terminate your data until the next cycle.

If you buy the Moto G from Cricket, it is a little cheaper at $149. Additionally, they will send you a $50 Prepaid Visa card as a rebate, making the price of the Moto X $99. Unfortunately, they only offer the 8GB version.

From what I've seen on XDA, the Verizon Moto G cannot be used on a GSM carrier, as it is lacking the GSM antenna. While I understand there are Verizon devices that can be used on GSM, the Moto G does not appear to be one of them.
