Hey guys, what texting apps does everyone use, and why?

I had the OG Droid before, and just used the stock texting app. I've thought about using Handcent, or Chomp, or Go SMS, but haven't tried anything yet.

What are everyone's thoughts?

i stopped using Handcent and switched to Chomp SMS because it requests fewer permissions.

don't you guys ever wonder how Handcent makes money? Handcent is based in Hong Kong. clearly they are not maintaining the app to the level they do out of the goodness of their heart, and i don't think the ads (which appear only in the settings menu) nets them very much given the infrequency of display. they have recently offered a backup service, but much of that is still free.

Chomp SMS is based in Malaysia. they provide an optional paid service for sending SMS messages internationally, and includes more aggressive ads and a paid key to remove them (which is 5 or 6 US $ i remember correctly). unlike Handcent, they also have a web site with a privacy policy posted (for what it's worth).

not that i would send anything sensitive in an SMS message, but still, it's something i wonder about...
 
Used Handcent for over a year now. Very customizable. You can even set different notifications, backgrounds and colors for individual contacts you text with. Use the Handcent location plugin to text a map of your location to others. Use the Full Screen editor to compose your messages. Yeah, I really like Handcent.
 
I have been using GoSMS for awhile now and love it. I have tried most and had a little issue here or there with different ROMs but not matter what I have ran GoSMS always has worked without a flaw.
 
Handcent is a ridiculous texting app. I love it's popup reply feature. When I get a text, I can reply without even unlocking the phone. And the skins available are really sweet. Every aspect of this app is customizable. Please do yourself a favor and check it out.
 
I use a combination of Handcent and Google Voice, though I'd probably transition to GV fully, if it supported MMS.

The customization and expanded features of Handcent are great, though.
 
I used Handcent religiously on my OG Droid. Loved how customizable it is, the pop-up notification, et al. I've yet to install it on my Bionic, mostly cause I just haven't been thinking about it. I'm sure I will before too long.

Does handcent have free texting? That's why i use chomp sms because it has text freek where I can text for free with anyone that has an android or an iphone. I don't have unlimited messages and me and my girlfriend text a lot that's why i use chomp and it's been working well for me.
 
Chomp SMS + Smart Keyboard Pro

This is the best combo I have come up with. After changing a few settings I am very happy with this. I hate the stock keyboard sound. Smart Keyboard allows you to change it.

That's what I'm doing too, with the android skin.
