Help White HTC screen on Incredible...

I was given a HTC Incredible by a friend, which is not attached to a network so has no service. I was just using it for apps and it was working fine, however now I cannot get past the white screen that simply says 'HTC' at all.

When I get to the option menu by holding down the menu button as I power it on, I have the following information.

INCREDIBLEC XD SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.92.0000
MICROP-0417
TOUCH PANEL-AMTEL224_10aa
RADIO-2.15.00.07.28
Jul 23 2010, 18:06:51

I have the option to go to the Bootloader menu, reboot, reboot bootloader or power off. Trying safe mode or factory reset or any option at all has no effect.

Everything just results in the phone vibrating and the white HTC screen being shown.

What troubleshooting things can I try here?

So downgrading is the only way? Damn...

I don't have an adapter for the micro SD card so my computer can read it, can I manipulate it through the phone via a USB cable? I don't need to format it, it is already FAT32.

You will need an adapter or you might get by with using another phone that you can interface and place the file on the card that way.

OK, with an adapter formatted card to FAT, downloaded the file (verified with md5sum) and renamed, then retsrated while holding down volume button.

Went into special menu, but the file was not detected. It scanned for it, but it was not detected.

I can't connect my phone to my PC, as a driver is not detected. No idea if USB debugging is enabled, and no way for me to turn it on.

Unsure of what else I can try here...

You can fix the connection to computer issues once you get a booting phone. Did you rename the file to PB31IMG before placing on the card? It must be that exactly. If you did, reformat the card again to FAT32. Do a full format, not the quick option, then retry. Sometimes they can be persistent, then all of a sudden the file will be recognized and it'll go through.

I can no longer get my phone to charge....nothing changed software wise as the file was never recognized....is there any trick I can do to get it to charge again? This seems very odd....

So you can't boot up and you can't charge either? If so, I would suspect hardware failure. Try another charger or cable if possible. If all that fails, you may be out of luck.

Well, it was charging. After I formatted the SD card and tried to get it to recognize it....now it won't charge. To the best of my knowledge it never detected the file.

Is there any possibility the not charging could be a software problem?

Seems unlikely. You'd know it if the file worked. A loading progress bar goes up the right side of the screen and it lets you know when its done. Then you have to volume up again to reboot to system.

what happens when you try to turn the phone on?

OK, left the battery out and it was charging....let it charge for quite a while, as soon as I tried to turn it on nothing happened, and now when I try to charge it again no charge light...

So you saw the progress bar moving up the right hand side of the screen? Or it never moves to the point of actually loading it? It should be asking you to press the volume up key to load it.

OK, now it has loaded, but for the last 30 minutes after pressing the up volume button, the bootloader has said updating in pink text, but is not progressing past this.

Dammit that phone is being a particular PIA. I REALLY DON'T like the idea of interrupting this sort of file load either but it shouldn't be taking that long from my experience. I'd ride it out for awhile yet before doing anything. Is the progress bar moving up the right hand side of the screen (from bottom to top)?

Crossing fingers.

Ok, here's our options:

1.) Keep waiting it out and hope it takes eventually.
2.) Take the back cover off and quickly unmount then immediately remount the SD card in hopes it kicks it to life.
3.) Pull the battery and retry.

I don't like option 2 or 3 very much but obviously, you can't stay like this forever. Are you plugged in to a power source right now by chance? I'm beginning to think you may have an issue with one or more of your partitions that's preventing it from moving forward somehow.

Hmm, no power source.....I tried option 2 as it has been more than 90 minutes....taking the SD card out makes no difference.....

Also, did you check the MD5 of that file as mentioned in the OP of the provided link? It's imperative that you have a match to be sure the entire file was loaded properly.
