Root White Widow Consolidated Thread

Thanks for the link to the touch screen fix; it worked and I was able to successfully flash/install White Widow 4.1.

After playing around and tweaking it for about half an hour or so, I found it not to my taste.

A few bugs (a bit of duplication in some of the menus, showing two of one item.. also, in "manage applications" not of the applications would load in there; it remained blank after the small "busy" animation in the top bar stopped and vanished), but even without the bugs I had the feeling it just did not stand up to my Senseable 3.1.

It seemed comparable speed-wise.. but, I couldn't wait to get back to the one I like.

I'm not sure if I'm going to install any more of these; I just can't find a reason to get away from the one I happened on to right after trying EE3 for a while.

I have a lot of appreciation for all of the help I've received about WW. Thanks again!

for the apps to show up you need to turn off the filter frisco :P
hit menu, filter, then all apps :P

What requests for donations? Frisco i would like you to take that back, i have NO ads in the rom, the only doante ink is on the first page of my website.
I think he is talking about the ADW Launcher menu, which is a donate for the ADW Launcher App.

I'm curious about something else that came up in the WW 4.1 boot-up: a choice between two versions of setup was presented.. and I can't recall the exact wording of those two choices, but after trying them both in two different efforts to install the ROM, I remember one was not titled but appeared to be a file path, and the other resembled more of a traditional "setup" style.

When I did the "file path" one, I ended up with a few duplicate menu items, applications > manage applications would not populate, and ads were animated at the bottom of at least one menu.

That is not from my phone. It is from a website showing that pic when I did a search for "adw launcher menu."

If that is not your ad, andrizoid, then I do apologize for giving the impression in my post up there that your ROM was full of ads (I edited in an explanation to that post).

that ad is for ADW, the reason there are two start up menus is because on is included in the AOSP build, and one is in the google package. when i leave out the setup wizard included with the google apps, you cant sign in.
and the reason you cant see your apps under the manage menu is because you need to hit menu>filter> and choose all rather than just downloaded

I went too fast with that ROM; It was the fourth try at getting past the frozen touch screen, <--- that was resolved with the patch flashed, but I was breezing through after being a bit frustrated.. I'd even downloaded the zip several times thinking the touch screen problem was related to a corrupt zip file.

I'm looking forward to the next release of WW.

ill have a new release soon, new CM commits, thanks to Colonel Panic for pointing it out.

im on vacation so havent been able to do much work, but these new commits appearently let you re-size widgets...not sure on this, but thats whats been told to me. i need to get to my computer and get to work :P

also, someone pointed out a fourm hosting site, i may have a forum on my website soon!

I should have tried the rom myself before posting a negative comment that could influence others.
I will try it soon. Just haven't gotten to WW yet.

Good on ya, cable guy.

As you can see, and this happens from time to time around forums, a few rather benign things mentioned, and a bit of haste fooling around in a brand new area (rooting, for me, is a brand new area), and a post or two about it in a couple of threads can lead up to misinformation.

It is good that real communication prevailed.

it helps when we have decent people on both sides of the computer though.
on some sites i could mention-not going to say where but im sure you know what im talking about-a comment like that would have spawned at least 5 or 6 pages of flaming.

just a heads up, 4.3 will be coming soon, newest CM commits.
and im also going to take a look at 4.2 again, see if i can get that GUI app working a little better.

Root newbyness anecdote: when I got my first boot of WW 4.1, I saw the lock screen and (after sitting down from several halelujahs) thought it was frozen because it would not scroll down and unlock.

The swoop from left to right was lost on me for waaay too long. :D

I'm laughing about it now.

i thought i lost root! for hours i was freaking out. then i looked at my phone-facedown on my lap- and saw that the popup came up. hit that and it was all good.

new stuff always confuses people :)

It is kinda tough when you've got several roms to choose from, especially when they're being updated every other minute. For the last few days I've been back and forth on three different roms, and two different versions of two of the roms.
I finally took a deep breath and started reading a bit more and looking around and realizing the differences in each.
I'm back on 4.1 now and the only issue I've found is the proximity sensor didn't work on several calls. I just downloaded ScreenOn and set that so we'll see.
I also found easy switch and am now able to turn 3g on/off with one click Hellsyeah!!
I charged my phone to full about an hour and a half ago, it's been asleep since then and I just checked, with 3g off, my battery is still at 100%.
This is a great rom in my opinion, I appreciate everything Andrizoid has done and it suks about all the (-) hype. But, I don't care, keep on doing what your doing dude, it rocks.
