Help Who Do I Kill?

Update: I told them I want my Triumph replaced with a Triumph and now they are out of stock on replacement Triumphs. Effing neat.

All of your problems listed in original post sounds like software problems, and CM7 could potentially resolve them (if you don't mind losing HDMI functionality for now).

As someone said earlier, why should I have to 'fix' a brand new phone out of the box (AND lose functionality as well)? I didn't pay $300 so I could sit and research rooting a phone and potentially brick it. I want it to work right right out of the box.

Emailed VM. Was surprised at the ease with which they will send replacement phone. It should be on the way tomorrow.

Hey,

I just ordered mine during the sale price of $120 and am worried from all the negative reactions from users that they are getting refurbished MT's instead of new ones.

What was the process u went through to return your MT's to get replacements? What reasons did u give to VM and how was the reaction/response from them?

Did u purchase it frm a store or via VM onlline?

Thanks!

I received my Motorola Triumph that I purchased Cyber Monday, yesterday and noticed the power button wasn't working. After 14 minutes on the phone with VM, they said they'd ship me a replacement and later that night I got an email that they were shipping it through FedEx Standard Overnight. I should be receiving it on Monday. I agree with you on wanting the phone work right out of the box without having to root it with some other ROM. I hope that you are able to get a replacement.

I think I might have gotten a refurbished one. They could have at least made sure the device could power off and on. I called and told them I couldn't turn off the phone and that I had bought it on Cyber Monday through their website. They seemed happy to assist and my replacement is currently in route. If you do have a problem with yours just call and let them know. At least get a replacement and see if that one is better. :)

UPDATE:

So, after fighting with VM about the warranty issue and ripping them a new one, they finally sent a new phone (in package, not refurb). I unboxed it and tried it. Almost immediately, it started with the refusing to power on without a battery pull. Two days later and then the random reboots.

I think (and this is just my opinion) that this phone is a piece of s**t. Two brand new phones, same set of problems. On the replacement, I even waited a few days with just stock apps and nothing changed. I'm going to email VM again. I'd like my money back, but I'm guessing that's not a option at this point. At one point, they had offered the newer LG slide-phone (not sure of the name).

I haven't had any problems like that with my phone... But VM might refund your money or you might be able to exchange for another phone (which is kind of a ripoff), since so many people have had problems... But then again that's if they're being generous... You might only be able to do an exchange for another MT which may not have the problems that you are having... But its all up to you...

Why should anyone have to modify a phone to make it work right out of the box,if i am going to spend 300 dollars every feature on the phone must work 100% on the phone our back it goes, and from what i have read their are still functionality issues with CM7.

I feel your pain man.

but you gotta face the music.

the truth is, the manufacturers care about their own profits and goals, they use newer software as incentive to sell more expensive hardware, and most times a phone leaves the plant, its not their concern anymore.

most of the problems with the triumph lie completely in the stock ROM.

imagine how bad the situation would be if we DIDN'T have such talented people to port MIUI and CM7 to the triumph? wed be stuck on a bad Froyo rom FOREVER. with no hope.

I say its worth the try, becuase you being mad isnt going to make VM or Moto or Huawei release better software for the phone.

besides that, dont get anything less than a triumph as a replacement, you got a bad phone, but clearly its not a bad phone as so many others own and enjoy it.

I would say this is a good point. Don't take a phone you view as "lesser" (either in specs or monetary value or whatever) as a replacement. I know people have said that they keep getting bad ones. Mine is fine and I have not needed a replacement. Got it a couple weeks after release. I know there are good ones out there, it may not be worth your time to try and find one, but you already spent the money.

Also getting a refurb instead of a "new" one is not necessarily bad (I know you said you fought to get a brand new one this time). Think of the new ones as untested. The refurbs should have been checked for at least major issues. Yes people have had issues with refurbs too. So again up to you, just try to not get stuck on the "new" part I guess.

Phones that cost double what ours do have problems out of the box. It's the reality of the smartphone world. All a smartphone is is really a lot of components all sourced for the cheapest possible proce, then assembled for the cheapest possible price, then run software coded and QA'd for the cheapest possible price. Smartphons make thier $$ on volume of phones sold, not quality of the phone. You can live with failure and QA rates that would be obscene in other industries.

Anyway, the Triumph is almost unbrickable, flashing CM7 takes all of 15 minutes and solves almost every problem the phone has. If you can't invest 15 minutes fixing the problem yourself, you are free to instead weeks having VM try and fix it for you.

If you have a philosophical problm with products not working perfectly every time, then buying low to mid end consumer electronics might not be the thing for you.

I see your point, lanceg, although I could have seen it with less attitude. :)

I guess I will try the CM7 route.

I DID IT! I installed CM7! If anyone needs me, I'll be over in the 'All Things Root' folder from now on! :D:D:D

Also, if the random reboots and battery pull problems come back, I'll know it's a hardware issue then.

See? All those issues and all you needed to do was root :P
Really though-why all the hate about "things should work perfect and if they don't BOO!"
I understand these are consumer electronics, but it's already been said-the companies making the phones aren't exactly losing sleep over the few customers that get a "bad apple" as it were.
In a perfect world phones would be rooted automatically, and people would be given the source (given, I say!) from the companies themselves so people could compile things with , say, all the necessary drivers *cough* HDMI *cough*
The differences between a rooted and non-rooted phone are literally night and day.

In a perfect world we would all be given the same phone so we all have a bunch of devs and can have lots of roms to choose from for every android version out there...
