Help Who Do I Kill?

Oh my god, I hate this phone. I've been in denial for months, but eff it. I hate it. Hate it.

  • Randomly reboots at least 2-3 times per week.
  • At least once a month, I have to pull the battery b/c it's so frozen the power button will not turn it off.
  • The microphone drops out for no apparent reason and requires a reboot to start recording audio again.
  • The speaker volume is ridiculously low. My old Intercept could do better.
So, who I take this back to under the 12-month warranty? I bought it at Best Buy. Do I call Virgin Mobile?

ARGH!

I don't know, but if you are using the stock ROM, you should consider rooting and flashing CM7 or MIUI. It's like having a totally different phone. :)

Well that sounds like problems with your specific device so I would contact vm to get a replacement unless you still have a warranty with bestbuy.

Emailed VM. Was surprised at the ease with which they will send replacement phone. It should be on the way tomorrow.

Why should anyone have to modify a phone to make it work right out of the box,if i am going to spend 300 dollars every feature on the phone must work 100% on the phone our back it goes, and from what i have read their are still functionality issues with CM7.

1. I don't know of any phone that doesn't have any problems, and have always had issues out of the box with any phone.

2. The only major thing not working on CM7 is HDMI out. In fact many things work better than stock, if you don't need HDMI, most things work better than stock (GPS!!!).

That reads like a laundry list of issues I'm also having.

I'd love to just email VM and not have to deal with interacting with a customer service rep. Mind telling me where to email and if there are any key words? If there's somewhere other than the vanilla customer service email or a certain key word to get service faster, well, you know how it is... and you've already gone through the mill, right?

Sure can. I sent this tweet to @VMUcare and they sent this response. Went to email from there. Good luck.

You definately got one of the bad ones. My first one was a bad one and it was a nightmare. I returned it and was blessed with the second one which is one of the newer versions and it hasnt had any issues thus far. Seems one of the easiest ways to tell off hand is by the screen color. My bad one had a very bight washed out screen the new one has a slight blue tint but the colors are deep. Also the software version on the bad one ended in 38 and the new one ends in 39. Dont waste your time with it as its only going to get worse. Return it before its too late.

Software versions and screens cannot determine if a phone is good or bad.

there are two types of screens for the Triumph: One from Toshiba and one from Truly. The "brighter more washed out one" is Toshiba, the "deeper black and color one" is a Truly.

There are also two software versions, 38, and 39.

Personally, I have a Toshiba screen'ed v38, and everything works. My friend has a Truly screened v39 and has the flickering screen problem and other issues. As you can see, this is the exact inverse of your situation, which means the screen type and software version are not accurate indicators of whether or not your device will have a problem.

My wife has an OV, it has it's own issues (though not necessarily the same as the MT). My sister-in-law has an iPhone4 and it has its own quirks and issues (this phone is also half the price of an iPhone4, and in my opinion I would rather have a MT). I used to have a blackberry and it was much worse, lol. I was merely stating that every phone has it's issue and this one can be just as good as the ones you just mentioned.

Emailed that address, they fired back with "sending a replacement within 3-5 days" within two hours. Marvelous, thank you SO much PatrickD88!

Update on my Triumph replacement:

I emailed because I hadn't heard where the shipment was in a week. They said there was some kind of delay because my warranty showed as expiring in October this year. Which is funny to me since the phone has a 1-yr warranty and didn't come out until July 19th, 2011. Hmmmm...

They are researching it.

I had your issues (except speaker, don't know about that one), plus effectively no GPS, plus random sd card compatibility issues, plus some other shiza. I rooted and tried both CM7 and MIUI - none of those issues now :)

I suppose I lucked out. I got my MT from QVCdotCOM with easy pay. Took awhile to get here but it runs isaacs' miui rom almost perfectly. I say almost because i get the download failed issue sometimes, though the downloads don't actually fail. Also ran in to low storage error even though I had more than enough storage...No hardware issues though.

Another update: I emailed VM for the 'where's my phone' and now they are offering me an LG Optimus Slider instead. Here's what they say:

I would like to send you the Optimus Slider, instead of replacing the Triumph. It is a much better phone. It has the
Gingerbread 2.3, and a slide keyboard. Please let me know if you would like to do this.

Why do you guys think? I'm leaning toward no. I got really used to a 4-inch screen and while I like the slide-out-keyboard, it's still giving me a $200 phone when I bought the $300 Cadillac phone.

Anyone?

I wouldn't downgrade. I'd ask for a refund, then I'd turn around and purchase one for the $210 they are going for with the promo code found in another thread here. :)

They're trying to scam you(in a way), you bought a 300 dollar phone, but now they switching it for a 200 dollar phone.

Don't do it. Bull on the much better phone crap. U just had a bad triumph. I never had any of the common issues with my triumph. Now with Miui it the sh&*

Update: I told them I want my Triumph replaced with a Triumph and now they are out of stock on replacement Triumphs. Effing neat.
