Who has an official 2.3.4 firmware update via Kies?

Updated my S2 using Kies from version 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 on O2.

So much for the battery life fixes.... first off it drained like mad... installed Juice Defender Pro and using Advanced settings and trying to improve battery life... was knocking down 1% per min with usage. Not games or anything, normal use!

So read the threads in relation to battery life and removed all widgets etc...

Would warn against others updating atm if the battery gets worse like this.

Does anyone know is there a calibration period following an update so the battery can evolve for the new OS?

Or is this a stupid question?

I updated to 2.3.5 last night on O2 and I'm not sure about it...

Battery usage is the same but no real difference in performance and very few enhancements as far as I can see.

I updated mine 2 days ago, now running 2.3.5... The battery usage is mad on it!
the first day my battery nearly ran out of juice in 8 hours! It's been getting better day by day though, but I see no changes from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5, except the stupid blue scroll thing

Hum.. Stil no update from Bell (Canada) in Quebec.. I checked last night and still on .3

:/

I have talked to Bell and they have no Idea about the update and there tech department acks all dumb when I ask about the update. So I would not hold your breath over this update. Sucks big time..

The onscreen font has also changed.... the battery issue was giving me a DefCon 1 status! Glad to hear that it stabilizes after a few days... Fine tuning Juice Defender wouldn't hurt anyways I suppose. Was even contemplating wiping and buying a bigger battery!

Will sit tight... tweaked settings and letting it run down till its out of juice atm and see where I end up. It can only improve.

I thought KIES would be a very easy way to update my phone but it is a big joke. It sucks that we have to wait for the carriers to do there shit to the update. It needs to change and be more like Apple in when there is an update EVERYONE gets one.

I cant see any difference in 2.3.5, is there any official release to say what the update has in it:confused:

Managed to do the update but can's see much difference other than the font! I am not sure if the font looked better before, may be my imagination as I now can't compare it.

my battery life has improved by at least 50% on 2.3.5

On stock battery, i once got a full 7 hours of screen time with auto brightness and 3g on the whole time. This is heavy use over a 12 hour period.

I found that system power saving does a lot of good and doesn't seem to affect performance

I did a factory reset before updating to 2.3.5 (the O2 update) and I've seen a decent improvement in battery life. I wouldn't say I was a heavy user, but after a full charge last night, I've seen about 1% drop per hour, instead of 2-3% on average on 2.3.3. Losing all my apps and having to reinstall them is the only real disadvantage of doing this, but it's got rid of a lot of games that I downloaded, played once and then forgot about.

Maybe a factory reset would help other people that have just updated to the new O2 firmware.

Hi guys, a friend got a new galaxy s II and it had 2.3.5 on it so thought I'd try and see if mine could be updated.

I go to settings about phone and check for updates there and it said new firm ware, so downlaoded and then it installed, then it rebooted. It then said new firmware again. thought this was a bit odd so left it, this left me still on 2.3.3. I then went to it again today and thought i'd carry on and see where it gets me, so did it all again and then carried on for the second download, ended up with 2.3.4.

I now go and check and theres nothing else to download, is this all im going to get OTA ? Im with orange in the UK.

Cheers

Did you guys update with O2 using Kies?

According to:

Samsung Galaxy S II I9100 Android Gingerbread 2.3.5 Countries Release Status (Daily Updated) | Josephws'sBlog | YouMobile

Both O2 and T-Mobile have now got 2.3.5 which is awesome for me as I've with T-Mobile.

I've hooked up Kies on my Mac and after a restart of both, it's working fine.

However, under basic information > firmware information, I get 'GT I900 does not support firmware upgrade'. Erm does this mean the update isn't out yet..or I can't upgrade using my phone?! My phone is an upgrade straight from a T-Mobile shop.

It says current version is PDA:KG2 / PHONE:KG1 / CSC:KF1 (TMU).

I've attached a pic of the Kies on my Mac, just so if anyone can compare to the Windows version?

Under Tools > Firmware upgrade settings, I have auto download updates.

Just wondering if this is a normal message just worded weirdly or I have an un-upgradable phone?!

Hey Beyond,

Basically the not so graceful answer is that Kies on Mac is SH** and wont detect anything that its supposed to firmware-wise

Your options are one of the following:

1) Use a mate's pc and windows version of kies
2) Doenload windows and put it as a partition using bootcamp and then doenload windows version of kies as per (1)

If you go for the second option ive put instructions under Smileman's topic post concerning mac firmwares...which i think is now on page 2 of the forum.

Hope that helps!

I updated to 2.3.5 on Orange about a week ago.

Same issues here with battery drain. I thought it would have re-calibrated by now. Trying all the usual things, only marginal improvement so its been a let down for me.

Lol, sigh :(

Kies worked fine for me as well.

I had a bad experience with bootcamp (my fault as I picked the wrong partition and deleted the Mac side lolol) so I'm gonna leave that for now. Luckily I have access to a Vista computer and 7, which is better supported? I've read issues about connecting with Windows..

And cheers mate!

P.S No one updated with T-Mobile UK yet?

From what i hear mate, windows 7 is the most stable -ALTHOUGH only if you have the 32bit version. If you have the 64bit version you may have problems.....nothing i can absolutely confirm first hand to be fair, but I've seen many such posts/topics on forums regarding it.

Hope this helps mate x

I've updated mine on Windows Vista (???) OS and updated a friends S2 on Windows 7 64bit Ultimate. Both with no issues.

:)

@ Beyond: Hope it works out for you mate. If worst comes to the worst I'll meet ya in a pub in london or something and you can do it on my laptop!

@Vinnydude: Did you buy the handset and then put an o2 sim in it or did you buy the phone FROM O2?? If the former, then as of now 2.3.4 is the latest

@Remeniz: Looks like our messages have been deleted by a moderator or something mate but either way can I just apologize for my message last night - Had had quite a lot to drink and a massive argument with my girlfriend so was in a particularly foul mood and was looking for someone to take it out on! Sorry mate, I was a dick.

to be honest mate, from what's been going around the improvements from 2.3.4 to 2.3.5 are pretty tiny apparently.

hang in there and wait for the ICS update which will be big....either that or if you're impatient you could always follow the various instructions round the forum concerning using the 'Odin' software program to debrand and then 'force' 2.3.5 onto your phone...to be honest though unless you are a real enthusiast and enjoy those kind of processes you might as well wait.

Hi, I succesfully updated my O2 S2 to 2.3.5 today via Kies. I was a little concerened about getting the update because whilst I have been able to connect to Kies since it's latest update to 2.1.0.11095_121 my phone has never been shown when I navigate in Kies to Tools/Firmware Upgrade Settings. Connected today and it told me that a firmware update was available. I cannot see any obvious differences since the update but an hoping that the battery life at least will have improved.

I am in the UK on T-Mobile. I am still on 2.3.3 and check kies every day to see if there is an update but it still says I have the latest firmware.. :-(
