Who is keeping their A500?

You guys know that if you go to acer support there is a fix for wifi to flash that works great.

This works with the 3.1 (and impending 3.2) release of HC?

Also, there seems to be a USB driver update on the site posted on August 08. Anyone have any ideas as to what this does?

Thanks

EDIT:

I think the updates (USB + wifi) came bundled with the 3.1 update to HC...though the signal acquisition of the A500 still seems to be weak.

My A500 is quickly removing the need for my tower PC. Outside of the games I play on the PC, there's nothing my little tablet can't do. Sure, it's not as big as my monitor, but it's sharper.

Yes, I saw this today and downloaded it, clicked to install it but don't know if it really installed or not.

Is there a place I can look at to confirm the actual patch got on?

Retested using it in my kitchen where it constantly lost the wifi signal and now it's seems stable and works well enough to browse my webpages. Didn't pay much attention if the signal or speed was better since I wasn't downloading files.

We took the 3.1 update before the wifi patch was available so it wasn't there when I downloaded the big 359mb update. Hopefully it's now added the the 3.1 update.

So for right now, I'm not planning to return my A500 unless I see something better before the Costco 90 day return limit is over.

So, are you saying that the huge 359mb download (which I also got btw), did not include the wifi patch? I thought the 359 mb download was the upgrade from HC 3.0 to 3.1 and some additional Acer-specific downloads. Maybe I should head over and install the wifi patch and see what happens. I just hope it does not degrade the existing (somewhat poort) wifi reception!

Also, is there a way to uninstall the patch if things don't quite go as expected? If yes, how?

Thanks

Those updates are generally final. I've only seen a few android devices that have been able to downgrade to a previous version of Android. I haven't seen anything that permits it on the A500. But you can always install the patch. If it's already installed, it'll either do nothing, overwrite, or tell you that the patch is already installed. No harm in it.

But what I can recommend you do is get Wifi Analyzer. Using that, you'll be able to see all the wifi signals around you. Your router and a neighbor's router may be on the same channel and causing interference with your A500. You then can change the channel of your router to a channel that wifi analyzer says should be mostly clear. That may help your wifi reception a bit.

Thanks. I'll try it out.
