I too am tired of AT&T and I too got the Droid X but I am so dissappointed in the X. Lousy speaker for much worse than the Iphone. Thank god I didn't cancel my service. I will be returning my Droid X.

i switched but I haven't gotten my x yet. Tomorrow fedex should be here. As far as the Verizon service compared to AT&T...I really don't feel either one is superior over the other. Both the same as far as I'm concerened. Switched mainly cause it's going to be cheaper monthly because EVERYONE I know is on verizon so in network calling and texting is gonna save me $$. Plus my company gives you like a 20% discount off monthly bill.
I switched over and so did my wife. I got the X and she got the incredible. We are both much more happy. AT&T and Apple just like being in charge and like telling people what to do and what they want. Android will prove Apple to be nothing more than a maker of pretty hardware, just like all the other manufacturers proved that people are only paying an Apple tax when buying Apple PCs.

I switched. I should get my Droid X next week. AT&T coverage isn't the greatest in Orlando, and the iPhone 4 made things worse. My first call to AppleCare got dropped because I was holding my phone normally.
I'm still thinking about the Evo 4G. Sprints coverage in Orlando is the only reason I didn't try the Evo 4G first.

I switched from the iPhone 3G. My experience so far as been mixed.
Things Im worried about:
-The battery on the droid x is lousy compared to the iPhone. I was at the movies last night and it was at 40%, the iphone died on standby in 2 hrs. I use the phone moderately and the phone goes to 50% by mid day.
- My phone also gets warm-hot when I just browse the web, open up apps, etc. My iphone never got warm/hot unless it was prolonged use.
-Reception is a different story as well. I used to have verizon, went to att for the iphone 3g and now I'm back. I unfortunately found out that my office doesn't get any verizon signals when att did, and also my phone's 3g signal keeps fluxuating at home where my roomate's original droid does not.
So, so far, I'm missing the iphone's ease of use and it's ability to have a great battery life. I went to the verizon store and the guy just told me not to charge the phone overnight (which is weird, I heard that's just a myth). So i'm gonna wait it out another week and see what happens.

I'm on the cusp of either returning my iPhone 4 or my Droid X. Coming from an iPhone 3G and 3GS, I thought I'd be perfectly happy with the iPhone 4 when I got it on launch day. However, the string of issues and with both Apple and AT&T prompted me to give another phone and another network a try.
So I've been using the Droid X for a few days now, and I have to to say I'm really torn. There's a part of me that is having a hard time breaking away from the iPhone/iTunes ecosystem. I rationalized that I can just use my deactivated 3GS for gaming and iPod functions. I do really like the actual phone functions on the Droid much better. I also really like Google Voice integration, voice recognition, notifications, customized home screens, and the larger screen. On the other hand, I realize that flexibility and freedom come at the price of stability and quirkiness. I've had to reboot my phone a few times, the stock e-mail app keeps getting "stuck" checking mail once in a while, and of course battery life takes a hit when you enable all of the cool things you really like.
As for the networks, AT&T is having this HSUPA issue right now that limits upload speeds to 100 kbps. It's been going on in many markets since July 2 and it's quite frustrating. Prior to that, I was getting over 4 mbps down and 1.5 mbps up. On Verizon - at least here in my area - I'm averaging 500 kbps both up and down. So AT&T's network is definitely faster in terms of throughput. On the other hand, my ping times are much better on Verizon, averaging between 100-150 ms whereas they are often 400-500 ms on AT&T. This often translates into seemingly faster Internet browsing on Verizon, despite the slower throughput. So there's another part of me that is torn between AT&T and Verizon: the former has better throughput and the latter has better latency. Future prospects for both networks will require a new phone (LTE), so that's why I went with a 1-year contract on Verizon. I figure by next time this year, I'll want a phone that is capable on the new networks. But I have to decide whether I want to stick with Verizon or AT&T!

Im doing the 30 day trial. I still use my iphone though for now until Im sure that verizon is for me. I really like the Droid X, but its a phone first and foremost. It must be able to work wherever I may be at the time, especially at work, and so far this isnt the case. Another week and I will make a decision.

I have the original iPhone, and the 3Gs, and my main work laptop is a macbook pro so I'm heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem. I got a Droid X on launch day, and I'm blown away every day at two things:
1) Android is awesome
2) The X has everything a phone should have
The iPhone is nice for playing music, but that's about it. Every time I look at the dumb homescreen with nothing but application icons and no notifications or widgets it reassures me that the switch was the right thing to do. I *almost* bought an iPhone4 but now I'm really glad I didn't. The X really has simplified things for me. Instead of having a bunch of applications I have to check everyday for email/facebook/weather/calendar (for example) I have widgets for all of that on my homescreen now and it updates in realtime. No more checking 20 different apps in the morning to get an idea of what's going on. No more checking my phone 100 times a day to see if someone emailed/called/texted me - I just wait for the LED notification to come on.
Personally I'd say if Google polishes up Android a little more there won't be much use for iPhones anymore. They're nice music players, but terrible smartphones.

I came from the 3GS and then the iPhone 4 to the x and it's the best move I have made. The service is a ton better, the phones are comparable except now I can hold my phone the way I want and i don't drop calls. I think when motorola comes out with their update and 2.2 comes out this phone will smoke the 4. Really the only thing nice about the 4 is the display and face time and syncing with iTunes was nice but double twist makes it just as easy on the x. So I'm happy I made the move. I'm done with apple!!

Well, I had an iPhone 2G (yep...rocking the classics) and just got the Droid X on release date. Overall, I love the phone. I love the widgets which means I don't have to open up every single application to get the info I need like the iPhone OS....BUT, the battery life is killing me. The first day I used it heavily and it wasn't fully charged and it ran out that day (understandable), charged it up and it lasted about 2 days with my normal regular smartphone use. I charged it last night (was in the orange area on battery indicator) and through today (haven't used much at all...in fact didn't even turn it on until noon) it's about halfway. I'm hoping this is the battery indicator issue being fixed in the update but if not, that's the one downside to this phone.
I'm not gonna take it back or anything but I'll be forced to buy a car charger sooner rather than later I feel because that sucker is sucking up battery life. The only constantly updating widgets I have are ESPN Scorecenter and engadget right now. I'm brand new to Android so not sure how to properly manage batteries and all that but it just seems really quick on the recharge time

Yea the iPhone's HomeScreen Pisses me off......I said this before and i'll say it again....iPhone whole UI is nothing but a Checkboard array of the apps you have installed.....And thats like having your Android Device stuck in the All Apps menu....24/7

I came from an iPhone3. Tried a number of Droid devices in the past 5 weeks and settled on the Dx.
I liked my iPhone a lot, my primary reason for switching was the horrid AT&T network, at least in the primary areas I used it in. I had multiple dropped calls about every day and many more "couldn't connects".
I think Android right now is about where the iPhone was with Version 3.0 of their OS. It has a lot of potential but there are still some "gaps". The apps aren't anywhere near as well developed IMHO.
At the same time, I hope I never have to go into the Apple Store again in my life. Typical scenario when you have a problem: Go to AT&T, they tell you it's a phone hardware problem, send you to Apple. Go to Apple, they tell you it is a network problem, send you back to AT&T. This is bullshit in my opinion, what I'm really buying is the service and I want to be able to have one stop shopping when there is a problem so there can be accountability.
There are a lot of things I really like about the Droidx and to date, the call quality has been OUTSTANDING. That is the primary for a cell phone, at least for me. I really like the large screen but must say that in the bright sunlight, it is almost blacked out.
Given the problem Apple is having with the iPhone4 Antenna and the terrible AT&T network, Verizon and Droidx have a huge advantage right now. I do miss the efficiency and simplicity of the iPhone. But I enjoy the upside potential of the DroidX. I'm hoping the Froyo OS plugs a lot of the leaks and is more efficient, then at least for me, no regrets whatsoever.

I agree with a lot of this as a former iPhone user. I don't see a ton of difference (minus the widgets which are cool and the service obviously) and I'm hoping 2.2 is gonna knock my socks off so to speak.
Overall, I'm happy and glad I made the move but it's not a slam dunk just yet

I will say this to anyone still on the fence....it's about as big a phone as I'll go. Definitely near the threshold of being too big to be pocketable. I'll deal with it but it's something to consider. Overall, I'm still very happy with it but the battery and pocketability are two concerns (hopefully battery will be fixed with update)
What were your impressions of the iPhone 4 and what made you jump ship?
I loved my iPhone4, but it's failure to get the basics right made me jump ship. I was dropping every other call, putting people on mute, hanging up on people, randomly dialing numbers in the middle of a conversation, starting 3 way calls with people and so on...
At the end of the day it is a phone and it needs to be able to make and hold phone calls. I was not able to do that and when you use it for business calls it becomes a big mess. This is a combination of crappy AT&T service and a phone that should have been held back from releasing for another couple months. When I returned my iPhone there were 5 or 6 other people in line returning them as well.
All the other features of the iPhone 4 were amazing, I can't complain about that. The battery life, the hd screen, the video, the pictures, the apps, the front facing camera, no complaints.
After doing a lot of research on the android platform these last couple of weeks I can not wait to get my X and start customizing.
How did you get them to buy it out?
