Who Switched from iPhone?

I switched from the iphone 3g and have no real regrets. I was sick of dropping calls, calls 'failing', and receiving voicemails when the phone never rang.

So far I do really love the phone, but it hasn't been a completely smooth switch. Strangely, I receive some text messages multiple times. Sometimes hours later I'll receive a message for the 2nd time. Today I got a message that originally came through yesterday. I was hoping it would stop but I may have to place my first call to Verizon customer service.

Other than that, it'll just take some time to get used to the new system. I LOVE the droid software and the freedom it allows without 'jailbreaking'. I hate how multiple photos in an MMS have to viewed as a slideshow. And I don't like how profile images are apparently stored as tiny pics so that anytime they show up larger they appear stretched and low-res -- which makes it impossible to have nice big pics appear when someone calls (like the iphone).

No doubt there are likely apps to fix some of my complaints, but I haven't found them yet. I'm certainly not looking back though - It's been 4 days and NO DROPPED CALLS! I haven't said that in years :)

Switched from iphone 3gs. Had to pay an ETF of 115 but it was worth it. Droid x is completely badass compared to the iphone and we don't even need to talk about shitty AT&Ts network is.

I think everyone can recognize how awesome the first iphones were (as almost every other phone emulates it in some way now) but for me the iphone was just growing stale. I mean come on the homescreen still looks the same as it did 3 years ago? Same layout, same icons, same shit! Every year they give us 1 or 2 stupid features that we should have had from the start and thats the yearly update ?!!?!? (copy/paste, mms, ability to set a background?).

For those switching from an iphone to android (doesnt really matter what hardware) you just have to be aware that its a completely different platform and experience. One where you have more control, and one where you may have more responsibilities to make sure your phone is running the way you want it (ie killing tasks that are zapping your battery, removing unused apps/services, etc). The iphone is more about just plug it in and go. The thing never crashes and everything it does, it does flawlessly. Nothing to worry about because everything is so locked down and youre paying for the apple 'experience'. Downside to that approach is it gets boring after a while so eventually you buy an android phone :P

I switched. I should get my Droid X next week. AT&T coverage isn't the greatest in Orlando, and the iPhone 4 made things worse. My first call to AppleCare got dropped because I was holding my phone normally.

I'm still thinking about the Evo 4G. Sprints coverage in Orlando is the only reason I didn't try the Evo 4G first.

I was also thinking to try the Evo based on my brother's success with sprint.

The battery was a major issue with the Evo for him though

I did, and I am going back and forth between keeping the X and going back to my 3gs.

I think the X has great potential, but there are so many bugs right now I am not sure if I can rely on it.

The call quality is undoubtedly greater than the iphone (which started off great, but has dropped significantly over time).

I just can't decide. I am especially having trouble with email and Google Voice SMS notifications.

Battery life is also pretty terrible for me, and I am using the lowest settings wherever I can. I unplugged at 11AM, and it is already in the orange zone at 5:33PM.

I want to love the DroidX so much, but it is really starting to let me down. When it works, i love it; but it is sporadically laggy and sporadically doesn't notify me of SMSs and emails. It consistently has poor battery life.

I am not sure if other users are just spinning the battery life in a positive light or if I got a dud (which I highly doubt) but I certainly am not having the same experience. My phone needs to be charged mid-day.

I had the iPhone 3G. Got it soon after its release and I loved the phone. Service from AT&T on the other hand....not so much.

Many things I didn't like about the phone was how you really couldn't customize ringers, etc....basic phone stuff. I eventually jailbroke mine and could then change quite a bit.

The iPhone 4 looked very nice. I have held one and played with a friends quite a bit. For me though, it just didn't have the "Wow" factor. When I saw the X....well...I was MORE than wowed!

I've had the phone since Thursday and I absolutely love it. Verizon customer service is a thousand times betters, signal on my phone is a million times better, and I can't get enough of it. My GF has one too so we can finally do a family plan and save some more money as well. For me, this was an all around win and I could not be happier that I got the divorce with AT&T

Have had the original iPhone using T-Mobile for 3 years. It got more and more sluggish after all the updates, so I was ready for something faster. The DX hasn't disappointed, plus I get better signal, and obviously faster mobile internet speeds.

Considered the iPhone 4, but the killer for me was poor service at my house, and the 2GB data cap. I have enough to worry about, no thanks on worrying if I should use Pandora or not when I'm sitting in the airport bored.

I have the original iPhone, and the 3Gs, and my main work laptop is a macbook pro so I'm heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem. I got a Droid X on launch day, and I'm blown away every day at two things:

1) Android is awesome
2) The X has everything a phone should have

The iPhone is nice for playing music, but that's about it. Every time I look at the dumb homescreen with nothing but application icons and no notifications or widgets it reassures me that the switch was the right thing to do.

Agree completely! I had a 3G for 2 years. Today, I just showed my sister the X and I played with her ip4 while she played with the X and man the iphone is sooo boring!!! I showed her the widgets, the camera button, swype, panorama, GPS, notifications bar, blinking notification light, etc, etc LOL. She wants an x now ;)

I am extremely happy with X, I love it!

I love my Droid X and I'm very happy with the way it performs, but I'm keeping my unlocked and jailbroken 3GS. I travel quite a bit overseas and it's great to be able to pick up a sim card and use the phone just about anywhere, also like it or not, the 3GS is an incredibly reliable device.

VZW's International data plan is good, but still kind of pricey. I'm neither an Apple hater nor Android fanboy, I pick the best tool for the job so I'm keeping both. I do wish VZW would have made the Droid X a world phone, then maybe I could get by with one device.

I switched from Iphone 3GS to DINC to now the X.

I liked the Iphone. I do like the latest and greatest but the simple UI of the Iphone appealed to me. The available apps choices were the strenth of the phone. The Iphone looked cool, was fast enough and the Ipod function complete with Podcasts were my most useful function.
The problem for me was the AT&T network. It dropped calls daily. Being a single father and having a mother that lives alone I needed the calls to go through and stay connected.

So I switched to Verizon.

I got the DINC obviously because I had the choice of any phone since I sold my Iphone for $400.

I loved the DINC initinally but the battery issues were a dealbreaker for me. The screenand the UI was sweet but man I had to charge the battery twice a day. I tried app killing then not app killing but still the battery was an issue. Couple that with the calls being not very clear, I had to ask the caller to repeat himself many times.

Onto the X.

I was still under my 30 days so I traded in the DINC for the X on launch day. BTW I walked into a store in suburban DC and walked out with one, no line no hassle.
I like the phone, the calls are clear, the camera is better than the DINC and the HD video is sweet. Above all this is a phone, I need it to work as such and the X deos that better than the DINC or Iphone.
The negitive for me is yes this phone is big. When you add a case it's bigger. The screen is nothing compared to the DINC or Iphone and the UI is less responsive. I can live with both.
One of my concerns is the buttons. I can't imagine those buttons are going to hold up for a year or two.

All in all I feel I made the right choice as far as network and phones are concerned. Now if and when Verizon gets the Iphone that's the way I'm going.

Switched from my iPhone 2G.. Haven't been able to put down my X since I got it. I was a bit worried about battery life at first since the screen is so large, but IMO it's been holding up well, it needs recharged at the end of every day, but as I said, I've barely been able to put it down since I got it.
Multi-tasking is nice, MMS, 720p video recording, customizable, all these new experiences and more, android > iphone.

iPhone user here. I'm on a 30 day trial right now, but so far I'm not finding any reason to keep my iPhone 3G. There has been a bit of a learning curve, but I'm ok with that. I'm still having to get used to the fact that I can run widgets, and don't have to open up every app I have to check their status etc. I've played with a few friend's iPhone 4's and while they were fast, and "pretty" this Droid X is completely blowing it away IMHO. It's only a matter of time before the Android market is as booming as the App Store, and I'll take more end user control over pseudo-video calling anyday. Jailbreaking all of my previous phones(2G, 3G) gave me more control, but at the cost of the stability that made the iPhone good. I got the customization I wanted, but found myself having to reset my phone frequently. Call quality was mediocre at best.

Could the X do some things better? Sure. The inclusion of a FFC would have been nice. I'm still stumbling around the OS and its UI, but I JUST got this thing, and have been used to Jobs's way of doing things for years, so I can't blame that on the device.

Some things that the X does great? I love the way that Google integrates with the device. I love that I have Google Voice. The call clarity and quality is fantastic. The speakers are plenty loud, especially compared to my iPhone. Widgets are awesome, and out of the box control and customization are fantastic. As a jailbreaker, I can't wait until someone breaks this thing and gets us root.

Overall, this is a wonderful device, and Motorola has won me back after years of me hating their products. Now then, where did I put that number to call and cancel my AT&T contract...?

its good to see a lot of you Apple guys being open minded and giving something else a try. And at least you guys have reasonable and legitimate issues with the Dx vs Iphone. It pisses me off to no end when i see a Fanboy that has overdosed on Job's koolaid and swears his iphone is the best around yet he/she won't try something new. Glad i haven't seen any of that in here.

I've been with VZW for a while and got my Dx on Thursday. I don't personally feel the batt life is too too bad but it could be a little better i guess. I'm looking forward to seeing what the updates do in the future.

Funny AT&T story... I switched from the iPhone 3G to the the Droid X. My contract expired July 16th (coincidence). When I ported my number on July 16th to Verizon, I called AT&T to discontinue my service. They advised me that I would be getting a $60.00 early termination fee? WTF? I was furious. They said that "technically" my contract wasn't over until the end of the day on July 16th and that I canceled my contract early when I ported my number. My number finished porting at 6 p.m EST. They tried to charge my $60.00 for terminating 6 hours early? Long story short, I spoke to a supervisor, spoke to a supervisors supervisor and got the ridiculous 6 hour early termination fee waived. I switched to Verizon, not for the phone, but due to AT&T's poor service (both cellular service and customer service).
