Exactly. And this is how I felt about engadgets review when they were talking about viewing angles. It's a bit nit picky in my opinion.

For any phone feature, if I can ONLY tell a difference with a side by side comparison, then the variation is insignificant to me. Brightness would be one such feature. call quality is another.

If someone says that the Sensation is brighter than the Evo, it may very well be true. But show me one phone, and then show me the other phone (better yet, make it a double blind test so no one knows which phone is which), and if I can't tell which one is brighter, then for all intents and purposes, they are the same brightness, even if it becomes apparent which is brighter when side-by-side.

Cause I don't plan on walking around with two different phones in daily use, constantly comparing them.

With rumors surfacing of Sprint switching to LTE, how does this affect your decision to buy or not buy the Evo 3D?

For me, although I'm disappointed that it'll have an obsolete 4G radio, it won't make me not buy it. I need to upgrade (my Pre is basically dead) and the LTE switch-over (if it happens) probably won't happen for a year or two at the soonest. Plus, leaving 4G on eats up the battery, so I don't see myself using it too much anyways. (hopefully not just sour grape rationalization)

Will this rumor be enough to scare anyone from buying a phone with a WiMax radio in it?

Remember Sprint has a deal with Clear through 2013 (Depending on whether or not that company is still around) not to mention WiMax will still be used in one function or another. My point is the WiMax radio will still be viable 2 years from now when everyone will upgrade. The upgrade in a year or two will be a tougher call to make but Sprint should have that roadmap a little clearer for us.

Evo3d will be fine for beyond 2+ years. It will take a long time for this rollout to go into effect. Plus there is uncertainty that the lightsquared deal will happen anytime soon as the government may hold things up as the lightsquared spectrum apparently interferes with military GPS networks.

Anyways, if you thought 4g drained battery power you should read up about the thunderbolt's LTE performance or extreme lack thereof.

Very little; at least for now I can upgrade for free each year and it would take a while for something new to come out using lte on sprint network.

The biggest advantage is it might delay a switch to verizon. I'm actually more concern about signal strength then lte vs wimax but maybe if they siwtch they can pick up a lower frequency for the new signal.

I'm not saying that LTE is more efficient than WiMax; I'm saying ANY 4G radio will consume a lot of energy. LTE, WiMax, whatever - leaving it enabled can drain your battery.

If sprint is going to switch to LTE, I can't imagine they'll want to have too long of a cross-over period. Having to pay to keep two different 4G networks up and running? That's a lot of cash that this company doesn't seem to have.

I agree that it'll probably take a while to get the ball rolling, but once LTE is up and running I don't see WiMax sticking around for long.

Let's not make light of the fact that LTE is in some intense negotiations with the government over GPS interference. I work for a major satellite manufact. company and it's a big deal here.

Lightsquared is in intense negotiations (really, testing, but I digress), LTE is just the technology they're using, so that there isn't confusion if someone new is reading this. LTE isn't even the sticking point really, it's simply the delivery system to the end user (us)

Yeah, both WiMax and LTE are very power hungry right now, but I would say we're going to be seeing significant power savings with newer generations of handsets (like we saw with 3G in comparison to its infancy, and by newer generations I mean say, next year, as things like the Evo3D don't seem to be using any big leap in WiMax hardware), so while it's bad now, it *should* get better down the road, as with anything really.

Unfortunately, I would like to agree about the not wanting too long of a switchover period, but then I look at their iDen/Nextel debacle, and start to wonder...

I'm getting psyched up now that it's release week... I'm gonna do it. Going to order with Sprint tomorrow as a SP member. I'm gonna take the plunge! So anxious but excited... Hope I don't regret this LOL... My first Andrioid! Woo!

Lol don't worry you won't.

Let a buddy of mine play with my evo on Saturday. He uses an iPhone thru vzw which is supplied thru his work. His boss has given him the OK to switch to a android device. He just text me from the Verizon store lol

I have been using a moment for the last 18 or so months, and it is rooted pretty heavily and worknig ok. The battery life is pretty weak at this point. maybe 5 hours off a full charge, and it reboots every once in a while. It also is pretty slow when running multiple apps. but i can tether for free with it, and its running 2.2 so im kind of happy with it. I have been waiting for the Evo 3d to come out for months to upgrade to come out, but it seems like it has some mixed reviews. So i guess what im wondering is it worth upgrading to the Evo 3d, or should i look at the nexus s. im guessing that a new a phone will be a huge upgrade, but I am having second thoughts about weather the Evo 3d will be the upgrade i was thinking it would be. Also is there a free app to get around Sprints hot spot charge? thanks as always.

Definitely worth the upgrade, plus if you end up not liking it enough you can trade it in within the 30 days for a Nexus S.

If you're rooted you can get free hot spot, but I don't know of a way to get it if you're not rooted.

Also keep in mind that a forum like this will generally bring in more complaints than praises...people that are happy with their device (unless they're phone geeks like us) generally just use it and don't go to a forum to complain. So, while you may see some issues posted here it's most likely NOT that way for the majority of phone users.

Really it comes down to what you want to get out of it. You say your happy with your Evo 4g now, which is great. But think of the possibilities later on down the road for the Evo 3D

Your Evo 4g is rooted. and as we all know, a rooted evo allows for custom Roms and free wifi tethering. While currently the Evo 3d has not been rooted, imagine the possibilities of having a rooted evo 3d which will come later on down the line, with free wifi tethering and the performance improvements such as 1.2 duo core snapdragon CPU, 4GB onboard Ram (1gb for user), higher resolution screen, duo 5MP cameras, and a QHD display which can also display 3D images...not to mention the MUCH improved battery life.

It's actually 1gb RAM, then 4g of ROM/storage.

Anyway. Back on subject.

Right now, you're gonna feel some of the early adoption woes that most of us are. Some stuff like certain apps not wotking thanks to the non standard screen resolution being QHD, most games not having support for the new adreno 220 chip, etc.

The up in the processor is very nice though. This phone performs the same as the Droid x 2 I had for about a week. Granted, not a whole lot of the games are available just yet.
I would honestly say wait awhile until the bugs get worked out.

So... I'm receiving my Evo 3D tomorrow from Amazon (I am very antsy, like a kid on Christmas Eve). Something I've been wondering lately is if you can toggle the home screens to and from 3D, or does the 3D only affect games and pics/vids?

So is it worth it? I have zero complaints about my evo.. I have the extended battery so I get plenty of battery life...

Is there anything that makes the evo 3d a must get?

Well I guess it depends on what you want tbh

I had a Palm Pre before this and I was happy with that, and before my Pre I was happy with my generic flip phone.

But obviously each step was a huge upgrade, it became much faster, much more capable, much better screen, etc

If you're wanting something that you'll use differently than your 4g then this probably isn't it, the 3d is cool but it's just a side feature

But it WILL be a definite upgrade from the 4g, everything you currently do will work much better/faster and it will be noticeable. So if you want a performance upgrade then hell yes, definitely worth it

If you want something revolutionary then wait for the next big thing

jeremy,

i encourage you to read the first impressions thread that real world users have posted in. also you should do yourself a favor and go to a local sprint store and test drive the 3D.

many upon many people will tell you its a great device, however we each have our own unique ways and needs a specific device must have. it could be that the EVO 3D is NOT for you even though everyone here says its like cooking with crisco... until you get your hands on it only THEN can you feel that you have made the best decision.

Let me start by saying that never having owned an EVO previously, it's an incredible phone. That said, if you're use to the functions of your EVO, the 3DVO probably has a number of features on it that you'll probably like. As for the 3D aspect of it, it doesn't rule the everyday functions you''re accustomed to. Most outsiders that haven't done their homework seems to think that the 3D is integrated into all of the programming, when it's actually quite the opposite.

It's somewhat true in what some bloggers have said about the device pre-release, in that the 3D feature is more of a gimmick, but it's a cool gimmick that makes for an interesting conversation piece, on top of allowing you the creativity to find as many objects and scenarios as humanly possible to accentuate your artistic skills.
