Help why can't I transer the pics from my HTC EVO to my computer

It is a new phone, HTC EVO 4G. I did it once; I transfered the pics from the phone to my computer. I selected the option of using my phone as a "disk drive", hooked up the USB cable, and a window opened up with options of how to view the files. But now I can't do it again. Everything is the same. But I hook up the USB cable, and the window doesn't pop up. I went to "computer" and clicked on drive E, and there is nothing there. I know the computer recognizes the phone because the "safely remove hardware" icon appears in the task bar as soon as I plug the phone into the USB. I am stumped. Thanks for your help.

You should see a usb icon in the notification bar of the phone. Pull down the notification bar and tap on the usb icon. It should now give you the option to connect as storage.

This is correct. However I have had to reboot my phone before it would actually connect and allow me to choose "Disk Drive" I'm not sure why it does this but on an occasion it does. So if you do not see the usb icon on the notification bar reboot the phone and when it has completely booted back up try plugging it up again and wait a minute or two. A lot of times my phone will give me the option and it takes Windows a minute to catch up.
