Help Why did you buy an M8 instead of an S5?

I used Samsung SII Skyrocket past 2 years and wanted to try something different. But I also was afraid of the problems caused by the plastic case with the Samsung. The metal shell on the HTC One M8 was the other reason I went with HTC.

still really liking my good ol' m8 .... even more now as im not running viperOne rom on it ;) awesome rom for an awesome phone imo

I come from a long line of HTC phones. They have all served me well. Solid build and well designed. I am a fan of sense interface and have been spoiled to it's ease of use. I was ready for a new phone... the M8 was my only real consideration.

I like multicolor led notifications. May be gimmicky to most but I had an htc phone and changed to sammy to get multicolor Led Back.

A question for M8 users. When you misspell a word is it underlined in red? It is a native android function that LG still has but Samsung had to drop due to Apple lawsuit. I had to root my note 3 to get it back. Since vzw is close to blocking all possibilities of rooting I need the native red underlining of spelling errors. I will include a screenshot of what I mean.

Incorrect. Samsung devices will auto correct the text and then put a grey underline on it click on the word and you can delete it or revert it back to what you intended.

The auto correct is pretty darn good so this is, IMO a better solution especially since it takes one tap to force it though on input or two taps to revert it after the auto correction.

Both phones are decent. Going one or the other doesn't have to come with the state of mine that you are heavily compromising.

I've been tired of my GS3 for a while now (boring and constant random freezing/rebooting), upgrade is (was) in October and I couldn't wait that long so last Saturday I did the AT&T Next and grabbed this phone. Got great review and I like the look, I did have an HTC Inspire 4G before my GS3 which I didn't care for too much but was solid. That following Monday my sister dropped her GS3 and the screen wouldn't turn back on, she shelled out $800 for a GS5. I compared them Wednesday and I'm glad I bought the M8. The hover feature is the only cool thing about the GS5 IMO. Same ole thing as the GS3. Hers is noticeably lighter than mine but one major thing i noticed is how much lag there is opening up things on the phone, its like a 1 sec delay where as the M8 is instant (which I noticed when I got it but figured it was just my slow GS3)

That used to irritate me about my S3, certain apps (namely the phone and gallery) would take a couple of seconds to open. The moment I changed to AOSP it disappeared so it wasn't the phone, it was just Samsungs inability to optimise their software.
