Why do people say this is cheaper than the iPhone?

Hi all,

I'm really interested in buying a Desire although, unlike some, I intend to buy the phone outright with no contract as I already have a contract I am happy with.

However, despite people saying this phone is cheaper than the iPhone, average prices are about
 
Not sure about outright prices but they are certainly a lot cheaper when buying with a contract which is probably why they are described as cheaper.
 
The cheapest iphone 3gs 16gb (unlocked, no contract)here is 4850dkk. The cheapest desire (unlocked, no contract) is 3399dkk.
That's why it's considered cheaper. Those are both the prices in Denmark, don't know the UK prices, but I'd guess there's a similar price difference.
 
lol stupid question. people say desire is cheaper than the iphone because it is cheaper than the iphone! Okay its minus the storage of either 16 or 32 3gs, but if you shop around you can buy the phone unlocked and a 32gb sd card for a total thats less than the iphone 3gs 16gb!
 
bought my desire for 375 pound from mobile phones direct.
but now it's gone cheaper on internet especially on ebay. have a look there and there will be a lot of sellers selling under 400 pounds so i assume it is cheaper
 
Got to factor in the contract as well. iPhone contracts are generally very expensive for the amount of minutes/texts you get.
