Why do you like EPIC 4G? (over evo)

Lurker
I like Epic 4G over evo because of qwerty keyboard,SUPER AMOLED screen, ability to support many video codecs, format and audio. I like how thin it is despite the presence of physical keyboard. I am anticipating to download movies from Samsung Media Hub and enjoy it on 45'' TV.

Any thought?

Just because it's a Samsung.
i hate HTC

well, other than that, Epic kills the evo because it has everything that the evo has except the camera and a kickstand

The Epic has a better camera actually. Just look for some samples. But anyhow, what wins me is:

Keyboard
4 inch Super Amoled (wouldnt mind 4.3 though)
1ghz Hummingbird (Best CPU and GPU out)

3 things Ive been hoping for for quite a few months...

Epic 4g is the fastest phone on the (currently) only 4g network. Even the iphone cant beat the Epic 4g in the speed department right now.

Watch the dogfights and you will see the Epic blazing speed. But the other phones out like the Droid 2, Droid X, Iphone 4, etc are still plenty fast. Cant wait for 2.2.

At the end of the day, all I really care about is the slide out keyboard. I can type well on screen. I just don't like it. I don't like giving up screen real estate. It makes using docs to go very awkward. And on the Evo, two thirds of the screen is just gone. Having better media capabilities, better processor and nicer screen is a plus, but not earth shattering.

Unfortunately it's still vanilla Android when it comes to things like email and messaging which pretty much stink. Lack of options and choices. It looks old and clunky. And Samsung's skin is almost cartoonish, even more so because the screen is so vivid. Speaking of vivid. Would make for a good phone name.

HTC seems to be the only company that really understands how to clean up Android, and they seem to only do so much.

The keyboard and the smaller screen were the reasons I waited. The dedicated camera button and nicer screens are just extra icing on the cake.

Physical keyboard! I had the EVO and liked it but I couldn't handle not having a physical keyboard.

This is really one of the big reasons I like the Epic. I have a Pre right now so I am very used to a physical keyboard. Before the Pre I had a Blackberry Curve. I also like the dedicated camera button and the better quality pictures. I do have to admit I am going to get which ever one I can get my hands on first.

The nice thing is the screen is big enough that you can rattle off a quick text in portrait with the onscreen keyboard, but when you really need to type you have that slide out keyboard. Can imagine getting pop up texts and doing quick replies via the screen, but when I have long emails, running text convos, working in Office and surfing; I want the convenience and ease of typing on real keys.

Using an onscreen keyboard is harder for me because I have long nails. That is why the physical keyboard is perfect for me! :D

on topic-

Pretty much everything is better in my opinion. It's an easy choice for me.

ahhh. you were better off in the days of resistive screens. They're right up your alley with the nails. And I do have this itch on my back... ;)

if i had to purchase an Evo or Epic(as a former Evo/Sprint Customer)

I'd go with the Epic just because HTC has like known issues with build quality and i don't think i have heard much about Samsung's build quality

i have heard that they don't always keep promises

I prefer hard keyboard when typing a really long text or email. I can use touch screen for one or two sentence texts.

maybe he means the slight size differential is an easy trade off for having a hard keyboard. I posted the 3d images of the two phones in another post or thread (forget where exactly) and the extra height and thickness is extremely minimal considering you get the slide out keyboard. Personally I'd like to see gorilla glass on these phones so they could extend the screen right to the edge and ditch bezels altogether. That'd be almost a 4-6mm reduction in width alone on most phones.

In regards to being slightly narrower, I thought that was one of the positives reviewers noted about the Droid X over the Evo. Felt nicer in the hand as a phone.
What do you mean by size? The phone is taller and thicker than the evo, and only slightly narrower.

I just want to upgrade to a good Sprint Android phone that will keep me smiling for the next 2-year contract period.

My preference was for the Samsung Epic mainly because of the better super-AMOLED screen and physical keyboard. I also had an interest in the Hummingbird processor but I've heard mixed things about it so I'm not sure it lives up to the hype.

However, when Sprint decided to charge more for it than anyone else charges for an Android phone that turned me completely off. Personally, I think they're taking advantage of their phone shortage to gouge customers biting into their 4G hype.

So I went to Plan B and looked at the EVO. Of course, the EVO phone shortage has me so frustrated I could scream.

The EVO's still in play but I'm down to Plan C. I'm looking at other carriers, particularly Verizon, which has a better network in my area and will cost less because Sprint wants to force me into plan upgrades and 4G surcharges. The Droid X is probably my preferred phone as I type this.
