Why does 3G and connecting to other wifi signals suck so much

Hey guys, i am really getting annoyed with my desire. As much as i think it is a nice phone, such basic errors let it down. I chose this phone due to the high amount of praise. Now i wish i waited and went with the Samsung Galaxy.

Right this problem i have is 3g, and connecting to other wifi accounts using the BTFON app for instance.

Connecting to 3g at 90% of the time unconnectable for me, or takes a long long time to get any data. I've run tests with friends iphones and their 3g is blisteringly fast compared to mine in the same area. Even my dads Nokia beats it. And this is just a common occurrence. I live right by a telephone mast in Crystal Palace (And it's bloody massive) and even my reception sometimes is bad. There has to be something with the phone right?

I have the BTFON app and trying to connect to another network is a pointless. Now like many apps on the android, it works the first time but after that forget it. I got it work once while at a bus stop and saw an incredible amount of open BTFON wifi accounts for me to use, but everytime i go back to the same spot nothing... it just hangs for ages with my location and no information on the wireless hotspots i can connect too. I just cant believe it... again the hardware is letting me down.

If anyone has any information please and i mean please help me out.

has it occured to you that it could be the app?
doe you have problems with wifi just for browsing and data access?
ive personally never had issues unless im in a low signal area

ive never used BTFON

also you do realise that btfon (openzone) hotspots are mainly comprised of BT broadband customers enabling the openzone sharing on their routers

connection quality can vary

Are you on Orange by any chance? If you are, that's your problem. Have a search on here for Orange and 3G

Yes i am lol. Guessing it is common as muck.

I tried searching, and found nothing. I didn't want to start a thread because i didn't want to whine about something that might be fixed, but it is just getting on my nerves so much.

and @Rastaman i don't think it is the app though i could be wrong. But looking at my settings when wifi is trying to connect it seems to be more of a hardware issue... Possibly software with Orange.

I'm on Orange and have none of the issues you describe. Don't use BTFON but do use my own Wifi at home with no problem at all. And 3g when out and about is pretty quick too.

Have a look at Youtube Desire v iPhone comparisons if you think the iPhone is faster.

BTFon is only available to BT Broadband customers who make their wifi available as BTFon access points.

On a similar subject whatever happened to O2 users being able to access BTFon access points?

I've recently rooted & debranded (currently using LeeDroid 2.3c) (I'm on Orange), since doing that I've had much better consistant signals (even goes onto HSDPA!!! :) ) which I NEVER got with the Orange ROM, I had nothing but problems with their software - Limited Service & 80% time not connecting even though the signal was 3G!

(I got mine when it was released AMOLED)
