Why does Droid email have to suck?

YES THE EMAIL does suck compared to blackberry. and yes the email is slow and sometimes i have to reboot my phone for them to come in. also why does it take at least 5 minutes for a email to come through? 5 minutes is the shortest time the phone settings allow it to receive email? my email does not work correctly on this droid like it should

I'm using imap in the regular email client and it works great. Have you tried switching to imap? pop3 is a really old protocol.

I've been fine with the email app, but I am using IMAP. I guess you are stuck with what your servers are using, but POP3 would be unbearable for me even if it worked fine on the phone.

The one thing that is lacking in my opinion on the email is a search feature. I assume that this is tough to do with an IMAP account because it only downloads the mail as needed. However, I've got to believe that the IMAP protocol has built in query functionality.

idk what problems you are having, as you refused to say. My Droid is working fine to check gmail and my hotmail account, personally (:

Uh, I think you're misunderstanding the settings for the email app. You can set it so it periodically connects to the internet to see if you have new mail, and will alert you if you do. 5 Minutes is the lowest you can set it to, and every 5 minutes it will check if you have new mail (without you having to manually ask it to check). This DOES NOT MEAN that you cannot check your email or receive emails within that 5 minute period. Just click the options softbutton and click "refresh" and it will do just that. If you had it constantly connecting to the internet to check for new email, you're battery would die sooo fast.

Seriously why are people even using POP3 these days?

Umm I'm pretty sure I'm using POP3. What exactly is the difference between POP3 and alternatives? I know nothing about this kinda stuff lol. I have a free Hotmail acct (not exchange acct) by the way if that helps.

My gmail works great on the Droid, however, I do get an app error almost constantly when I try to open my exchange mail. Is anyone else having this issue?

POP is an older protocol which basically grabs email. IMAP actually syncs your email, making it preferred if you're using several clients to access the same email account. With POP, you're more likely to get repeated email or email that's sent to one device and is unavailable to others.

I have not had closures caused or triggered by using either email client on the Droid.

"Repeated email" is not an issue inherent with the POP3 protocol itself. "Repeated email" is an issue with the native email application.

This may..MAY be a coverage issue where I live, but BB is far far better for email than my droid. Will I go back to my BB? Probably not. Android is new and steadily improving.. much like early BB OS's. The Droid is an awesome platform that can and will only get better as the OS improves. The minor irritants are so far just that...minor.:)

my only complaint is that I'd really like to have colored labels on my emails... the mobile web interface does, you'd think the gmail app on android could...

I dont know much about pop3 / imap, but from what I can tell, I can only use pop3.

I have a hosted email account for my personal website but didnt like the email client they used so I use pop3 to read my emails through gmail, and then gmail to my phone.

Gmail works great.. the built-in app outright sucks for POP3 email. And you can bash it all you want, but some places still only use POP3. I recently tried out the K9 app and it is a vast improvement over the stock app. It handles multiple accounts pretty well also.

In the stock client, I used to get multiple errors with emails I deleted coming back with a date of 1969. Would delete again but they'd come back. After a week of using K9 I've not had this happen once.

If you prefer only using IMAP, you could always set Gmail up to poll your POP3 accounts and it should push them to your phone. It's not really a "fix" .. but it works.

Why are people STILL using POP3? Well ask Earthlink, that is what my mail account is. Not my choice!
I came from a BB, 3 yr old Pearl, and the Droid is a DISASTER for email. Unless I have missed something, there is no way to store email on the Droid correct? So when I dump email from the server to my computer at home they poof from my Droid, TERRIBLE. Also the inability to attach a document to an email is a joke. Google needs to hire product managers over 25! Fixes email needs.

1) Ability to reply to an email and attach a file from anywhere on SD card or phone memory.
2) Ability to store emails on the Droid.
3) STOP telling me 12 times the same email arrived
4) STOP bring back the same email after I delete it
5) Ability to NOT have Gmail be the default email account.
6) Ability to click on a file send it using an email account you select, NOT DEFAULT!
7) FOLDERS!

Basically they need to reverse engineer the BB mail app and improve on it!

Now back to your regular programming.....

Since its introduction, Verizon has not been able to help other than tell me to go to Motorola or wipe the phone and try again. Motorola does not respond to email.

Receiving email is inconsistent.

GMail works fine, but I am not moving four email accounts for the Droid.

Why do I have to shut off my phone and re-boot to see if I have email?
Other days, I get email.
Outgoing mail...sent a few this AM, and just discovered they never went out. Again have to reboot and send.

I am looking for assistance to solve the problem. I would expect, if anything between the OS and Email, that they would work pretty well.

I know I can have GMail pull my other email and send it to me, would this not be less secure than getting the email directly?

Any suggestions?

Since this is pretty much a useless thread with nothing but venting, ranting, and name-calling, I say the mods should just close the whole thread.

Given that this thread is full of name calling and insults, and the fact the OP refused to actually explain what the problem was, this thread is now closed
