Help Why Does The App Drawer Lag SO Much?

Think froyo will improve this?

It's all on Motorola. It's quite possible to code a good launcher, ADW and LP are great examples of that.

Motorola just needs to code better. Sure, Froyo will bring better performance with the JIT compiler, but that's no excuse for writing sloppy apps.

location. location. try the same procedure @ a different location. i was 1/2 mile away from home & whatever i did on the phone it lag....internet, scrolling...home button.....it just lagged. but when i got back home, everything was very fluid & snappy. could it be some magnetic interference?

App launcher pro all the way. My phone is a dream until updates address lag issues... but even then I won't use stock OS.

...no?

I absolutely love how smooth the app drawer, even in 3D, is on LP+. I never have any issues with it.

Ditto. I can't believe I waited a whole week to install Launcher Pro after I got my X. I thought the stock UI was decent but was blown away by the speed and overall smoothness of LP. Everything is incredibly quick! Never going back to stock!

Why do we have to install a different launcher in order to fix Motorola's issues.

These little issues are piling up and are pretty annoying.

My app drawer also lags dramatically the first time it's opened. After I've scrolled through it once, then it's super fast.

What has to be done to fix this?

Is uninstalling launch pro is as easy as just going in the setup & just unistalling it? I Don't have to soft reset the phone?

For me, it only lags the first time after a reboot. I just scroll (slowly) to the bottom and then from then on it's fine. A little pain, but not a deal breaker.

+1 Or if you have added apps to your phone. After the 1st initial laggy scroll thru, whenever you go back in, it's fine. Must be caching the icons or something. And yes I agree, it's a Motorola coding issue.

But I rarely use the app drawer. I use Apps Organizer and have a folder on my home screen with all my apps organized into sub folders. Easier and faster to find them.

Install "home switcher" and you can try any of them or make it your default.

Once in a while I try Blur, but keep coming back to LP.

It just seems to me that Moto dropped the ball on some of the basics.

I mean, isn't the OMAP 1 ghz suppose to be faster than the 1 ghz Snapdragon? But yet my wife's Dinc is blazing fast at everything.

Yet, the DX's unlock screen lags, the app drawer lags, he virtual keyboad lags 50% of the time.

I mean really?

And we shouldn't need special apps or tricks to fix lagging? All of this should have been adressed before the phone was released.

It's like no one test their product anymore before a release. Thank god this is all software related and not hardware like Apples issues.

But then we have this extensive periods of calling moto and vzw and complaining, each tech having us do reset after reset to fix the problems, and one day they will release an OTA.

Just in time for the next new phone to be released.

Wtf...?

He's lost on a secret island that is constantly moving and has a source of great magnetic power.

And all the secrets will / won't be revealed in an episode resembling the 80's Love Boat show. I loved the series but HATED that finale!

But back on topic. I would think MOST lag is caused by events / apps in the background. I know when I have market apps installing in the background I get MAJOR lag. As for location, signal searching may create some lag, but I still believe the main reason for App drawer lag is the caching of new icons in the drawer.
