Why does the Facebook app use up so much battery?

It uses up a higher percentage than the screen. I love the app but it kills my battery. All syncing and updating is disabled but it still sucks battery. Any way to fix this other than just using the website?

The white background and syncing. I turned off syncing on mine (before I uninstalled it because it wanted permissions to my first born) to save battery. But seriously, white backgrounds are a battery killer for the super amoled screens on the GNex. I play a sudoku game with a white background that crushes my battery relative to playing angry birds.

Obviously its because Facebook is stealing all your data to sell. It uses a lot of battery to record all of your conversations, monitor every email and text you send and receive, track every site you go to and every song and video you play, not to mention it takes over your camera to shoot video of you when you aren't looking...

j/k....sorta. ;)

I have my Facebook set with Notifcations disabled, messenger location services turned off, and a 1 hour refresh interval. That keeps its battery use pretty low; however, I may not use it as much as you.

I basically check it once in the morning (because my friends will get mad at me if I miss their "really cool post"). Then I might check it once more during the day. Today, it used 5% of 26% of my battery over a 14 hour period.
