Why dont we get the same as Apple ?

Ok so I am sure this has come up before but cant seem to find the right answer. I am not a fan of Iphone by any means but when you look around at little gadgets it seems it is all compatible with the Iphone. I don't see anything for Android phones ? I am talking about stereos and alarm clocks and why I thought about this today was looking for a remote control helicopter and saw one that runs off your Iphone. I am not to interested in getting these things personally but it would be nice to have these things available to us if we did like them.

an iPhone is made by 1 company. Apple. Android phones are made by so manydifferent manufacturers. iPhones have one design. Androids have well over 100? i dunno. Unless you eant all phones to be alike it wont happen unless its built by the manufacturer of the phone. Accessory companies arent going to design one item to try to be compatible with all these android phones. iPhones maintain the same similar shapes so making little templates to hold the 4-5 different designs isnt a problem. You have to also consider that not all androids runs the same OS especially if you root.

They are developing more and more for Android as time goes by. The reason the iPhone has so many is because there is only one device, and when one device sells so much manufacturers will jump on it to make a quick buck.

It's much easier to make things work with one device, rather than several that have different sizes, hardware, and software. It seems like a territory that they aren't willing to spend the time, and effort to jump in to.

Are you jealous that you can't use your phone to fly a remote control helicopter? Haha. jk :p

There's a lot of weird/neat apps like that designed to work with the Iphone. It doesn't mean that Android devs can't do the same but I think they choose not to. haha.

Apple has always had a great stable of accessory manufacturers ever since they launched the Ipod so it would explain why there are a lot of Iphone accessories. IMO, there are only a handful of reputable Apple accessory manufacturers anyways so you seeing a ton of accessories shouldn't make you envious. :)

Androids are generally compatible with most things arent they? As long as they use the same protocol. For example, a Nokia BH503 would work on an Android device, even if Nokia doesnt make Androids, because they use the same hardware protocol. It doesnt mean that if it doesnt say "compatible to Android", it wont work for an Android.

I totally agree with this post. It's hard to make a universal Android dock or accessory because there's so many. Lucky Android uses standard connections like micro usb and 3.5mm headphone jacks so that helps the ability to buy compatible 3rd party devices so you can use it with an Android phone.

LOL No I personally would not get these.

I would suggest hooking up a USB cable to your and run around seeing what kind of things it can plug into. You might be surprised.

yes... everyone has given good answers.. I just want to add to it.

if you are in business to develop something new and market it... you would try to find the biggest market for better chance for success.

iphone is pretty standard physically.. because it is made by one OEM... and they use the same port. and have a very big market size.. and that market is conditioned to pay for "bling".

I think the single thing that is killing Android accessories is the connector. MicroUSB is great, don't get me wrong. I love how I can have one cable to charge all my portable devices and connect/transfer data.

However, the Apple connector has a line out and control points for music players. No Android device I've seen has anything similar. So, different form factors aside, this is what kills Android accessories. A special app would have to be developed for the USB port to be used. Where Apple already has this integrated, and has since the first gen iPod.

Until Google decides they want to implement something like this and hardware OEMs are on board, expect to be left behind in the dust. Even the (now discontinued) Microsoft Zune had this and has more periphial support than Android.

Because we don't have a Steve Jobs. There seems to be no real focus and there's not carisma to help pull everything together.

The connector may soon go the way of the dinosaur. Future connections will be made via NFC / Bluetooth, so you can wirelessly connect to your car, home audio systems.

The connector is a short term advantage for Apple. Even Apple is making the connector less necessary due to wireless iTunes synching.

IMO, they added wireless sync because they need to add something to make it seem exciting. Wireless sync is nothing new to people like us, but the iPhone people will see it as the next big thing!

I respectfully think that that is what makes Android unique. Chaotic, yes, but unique.

unique yes, but updates roll out like progress through congress:mad:

and yes I understand that carriers have a lot to do with it and not android it's self...but I mean come on.

When an Android phone sells 1.7 million units in one day, you might see it happen. Every Android phone on the market combined couldn't come close to selling 1.7 million in a day and thats with well over 50 phones on 4 carriers.

My biggest complaint is why don't we have car steros that can plug into an Android and control it like an iPhone.

All Android phones have a usb , all android phones have micro usb.

The main reason that you don't see micro-USB in many or any cars is that it's not designed for audio broadcast. The iPod connector however, is designed for remote control and broadcast. There are a number of cars that let you use your Android phone as a USB storage device but since there really isn't a standard for USB audio broadcast you're better off trying to get Bluetooth audio working.
