Stick with well known ROMs like CyanogenMod. There may be others more specific to the Sprint Nexus

Yes, I believe Cyanogen is for real, and I hear good things, specific to the Gnex, about Team Sourcery.

Thinking that maybe I should root it right out of the box, lest I wait and wait and procrastinate and end up talking myself out of it again...

Rooting straight away is definitely preferable, because part of doing so will unlock the bootloader. When you do that, it wipes the device completely. Best to do that when there's nothing on it yet.

There's no reason NOT to unlock the bootloader. It doesn't change anything about the phone so there's no harm done and its re-lockable. And if you are ever going to root.... and since you are talking about it, you probably will.... you will regret not unlocking it immediately.

Unlocking wipes everything. Everything. Before you install an app or move icons around the screen.....unlock. Even after a few days with the phone a full wipe is a pain.

Still waiting for the phone delivery, but I bet I won’t root it... goes back to that need vs want thing. Even getting the Nexus violates that, but (almost) free was impossible to resist. But thanks for the encouragement.

Either way you go, I'm sure you'll find yourself loving your phone. I used mine stock a while, and loved it then too. And if you ever do decide to root, there are plenty of ways your info is backed up beforehand anyway. Let us know your first impressions when it arrives

But like others have mentioned, unlock it. It's simple, just install one of the toolkits for this phone on your computer
