Why people hate Touchwiz so much?

Not true. I went from Sense to Touchwiz to plain and back to Touchwiz without a problem. None. Both phones and tablets.

I originally started on Touchwiz with a GS1, and then a Droid Charge. I tried messing with someone's Droid Incredible 2 after being so accustomed to touchwiz and it was confusing to me. Then the Gnex came out and I got my first taste of AOSP and was confused once again. Missing things such as toggles through me for quite a loop. Granted this is all before I became the expert that I am today, and why I stressed at the begining of my post that it was from the perspective of a normal/casual user as opposed to us that are much more proficient with android. ;)

I really really like the toggles. This is my 1st TW phone but theyre second nature to me now :)

No kidding, after getting use to them on my Samsung devices, I got my first nexus and felt lost without them. It was so annoying to have to go to the home screen and then to settings every time I wanted to enable or disable mobile data and/or wifi. It really drove me crazy and is what eventually drove me to custom roms. Now I'm quite thankful the Google added them to AOSP in 4.2, even if they are ugly and Windows Metro-y. They still don't function as a would like them to, but it's certainly better than not having them at all.

The great thing about AOSP though, if YOU don't like it, YOU can physically change the code to make it how you want

The same is not always true for custom skins like TW, Sense, Motoblur

I like a happy medium so i use a Touchwiz based custom rom, some mods and a custom kernel :)
Oh yeah, and Nova Prime of course

Because it's slow, lags and makes your feel like 3 years old. They didn't even make the Contacts and Dialer apps correctly, take ages to load.

I don't have any of those problems, no lag at all. I turned off S-everything when I first got the phone, never even tried most of them, maybe that has something to do with it.

Personally I'm not hating TW. I just like a little bit more flexibility in customization.

I love all the easy access to toggles, Page Buddy and whatnot.

The only reason I bought Nova Prime and replaced the stock launcher, is to be able to customize the UI.
My custom DOCK order and custom icons, custom icon grid and size (dock, desktop and drawer), or even ability to overlap multiple widgets and control the design layout.
And of course, Gestures. I use many voice commands in conjunction with Tasker and number of Tasker plugins, and I use mix of gestures to trigger them or mix them. Other than that, I have no problem with touchwiz. In fact I prefer it over my wife's Sense UI on her HTC One.

Opposed to s2's touchwiz, I actually like the updated touchwiz. I actually kind of prefer it over aosp shockingly.

No lag here at all, except when the device first powers on and you have a small lag from it loading up, but gone within seconds.

Three (forgive the pun) cheers for choice!!!

I have happily turned my back on TW after using it for 6 months. there are many things I like such as multi-window, the colour scheme and, come to think of it I don't really know any more.

I am on an AOSP based ROM and this device has never been so responsive and quick since I have had. There is no lag, no memory issues and in conjunction with Nova launcher and the Tesla notification plug-in, which by-the-way is the only one I have ever encountered that truly works out-of-the-box for messages, calls and email, I have everything I could want from a smartphone.

I am not anti TW, or Sense or any other proprietory launcher they just have too many add-ons for the limited memory these things have on-board. What do you expect when the installation package for an average Samsung based ROM is upwards of 800MB; compare this to most AOSP/AOKP based ROMs and you are looking around 300 to 400 MB - I rest my case.:)

Even if you've got the 16gb version like me, the 800mb as you say only puts a small dent in your storage for me at least, and I've still yet to run low on storage ;)

Aosp runs much smoother than TW roms? Well my friend you haven't ran moar or wicked sensations yet :p both of these tw roms run just as smooth as any aosp rom out there imho

I think the American variants are snappier because of the 2GB RAM, against our 1GB, the international one with TW can't even multitask properly. The Contacts and Dialer lags is probably due to the LMK kicking it off, whereas in the US variant it doesn't happen.

Ahh yes forgot international only has the 1gb :o

Your RAM , my friend, is limited to 1 GB and that determines how smooth or otherwise your device runs. the overall storage you refer to has nothing to do with the point I make. ;)

The 2 things I brought up was in no way related to each other ;) I've been around android a while to know ram determines how smooth runs I think maybe :smokingsomb:

As I've previously said, on my end tw runs just as smooth as any aosp ;)

Yeah RAM has its impact, however it also depends on the firmware as well. I'm running AOSP on my I9300 and it's smooth and fast, unlike TW, which probably needs more RAM to run properly.

I[m just a beginner so what exactly is AOSP?? I just love to lurk with the big boys!

JM

AOSP stands for Android Open Source Project. It more or less means the Android os as Google writes it before the manufacturers add their own customizations like Samsung touchwiz or HTC sense.

Just attempting to build on what jhawkkw said, AOSP is android the way Google intended for it to be.

Its the android that you see on Nexus devices... lightweight, fast, open source, insanely easy to mod to your liking.

For those reasons, developers (and android purists) love it. In nearly every root subforum on this website you'll see people trying to replace their stock ROM with one based on AOSP.

I personally like Touch Wiz, but I'm curious, for all the people that don't like it, why didn't you get a phone that was pure AOSP? Aren't there plenty of choices?
