Why the HP Slate will fail

That may not even be released and if it is, it will not have access to the Android market making it pretty useless. Unless of course you are one of the 2% of the population in love with Unbuntu and have always wanted to take it with you :)

Quote from the article: "It’s quick and simple – and needless to say, any app that already exists for Android also runs on the WePad. Right out of the box." Maybe this is the tablet that you've been hoping and wishing for! Keep a good eye on it! :D But of course, you'll eventually find something and designate that also as a "fail" device. You are just so negative all the time... or at least look for all the negatives and don't acknowledge the positives [of course unless it's about Apple products, then it's reversed (excluding iPhone)], it can't be healthy.

ubuntu???
what are you talking about. Its fully compliant with the android market. Plus it runs an android OS.

Can't wait to see what his response is. I predict that he will not acknowledge that he was wrong and instead just try to find anything that could be bad from the article, even if he has to analyze and dissect the entire article 2x.

Ok, think what you will but there is a VERY good reason they have not shown the Slate doing any type of serious multitasking on video, and now you know why :) You would figure that would be a main selling point over the iPad they would want to show off, but they havent. Its gonna run sloooooow

There is also a very good reason they have not shown the iPad multitasking, printing, running flash video, video chat, connecting to anything usb, etc.

Unfortunately there is no release date or pricing for the WePad in the US.

@mcapozzi- it really depends on what you mean by "get something done". Post a pic to facebook, answer a quick email or check up on twitter, watch a youtube video, review a presentation on the train, read a book or the news, or check your calendar- all of these can be done with a touch interface very well-- some even more effectively than a laptop.

The HP Slate will fail, because:

1) HP doesn't have millions of brand-whores who piss away money like it grows on trees.
2) A computer without a keyboard is just a dumb idea, why pay more for a device that can do less. (See reason #1)

The HP Slate will fail because PC owners are smart enough to know a rip-off when they see one. Apple fan-boys will waste money just to be trendy.

My netbook runs just fine with 1GB RAM. Plus I get the added benefits of a real keyboard and all the flash video sites I frequent work flawlessly. Nevermind the fact that my netbook only cost $299.

Touch interfaces are fine when you have no other choice. But when you actually want to get something accomplished besides casual gaming and web surfing, you're going to want a REAL keyboard.

This is exactly why I would rather grab an archos 5

Isn't this all the same stuff that we can do with our phones, like right now, without having to haul around a man-purse.

Why would any sane person piss away over $500 bucks to do this stuff?

Doesn't actually refute the fact that I can do more with my $299 netbook than I can with a $500+ iPad.

The only thing I won't be able to do is look like a pretentious d-bag.

The Slate will fail because PC people know that $549 will get you a decently spec'd laptop. Now, I understand that $549 will not get you a Macbook, but that is an argument for a different thread. I do not think HP has a following of HP drones that buy everything they come out with.

$549 will get you a pretty good hackbook if you really want one though. ;)

Thats because HP usually makes crap (iPaq phone anyone?). Their desktop and laptops are usually poorly rated. Apple makes solid products that are very highly rated and people know and trust their products. Huge difference.

Do we have to go over this again? Pay attention this time please....

ONLY "WITH GOOGLE" DEVICES ARE ALLOWED TO RUN THE ANDROID MARKET!! The WePad will NOT be a "with Google" device meaning it will NOT be licensed by Google to access the Android market.

No doubt, most of this you can do with your phone. The larger screen would be nice for ebooks, browsing, and watching video. Also consider that Android tablets will likely be offered at the $200-$300 range, the same as your netbook. I have laptops, netbooks and a Hero. I would trade my netbook for a nice light, long battery life, instant on machine that would do what my phone does on a larger screen. At the same costs, I would trade my netbook for an Android slate with Market and good battery life. Without these though, it would be useless.

I'm on a lollercoaster right now... just reading mbell own himself in his own arguments over and OVER again is hilarious. Un-ban him so we can watch him make an ass out of himself again!! XD

So I was reading this thread, and one theme seems to come to the forefront, and that is mbell trying to state opinions (not thoroughly researched ones either) as fact.

That just leads a total failure of any argument one may have originally had.

This is a lie...but never mind...he's got himself banned.
