Why would anyone choose the Nexus S over the EVo or Epic ???

Well the Nexus S 4G is made by Samsung, and at this point everyone I'm sure is well aware of all the software failings of Samsung. They are simply incapable or unwilling to keep their devices up to date with the latest software as they appear more focused on their next devices to hit the market. In fact, this is one of the reasons why I finally chose the Evo over the Epic was out of concern for future software support. They make great hardware, but software has been their biggest weakness.
What does everyone think will happen with the Sprint Nexus S? Since this phone is made by Samsung, do you think it will experience similar software shortcomings as the Epic 4G and countless other Samsung devices? Or will this one be any different? At this time I think I'm going to hold off on the Nexus S in order to get the Evo3D, not only because I loved the original Evo, but also because I am more confident that the Evo3D will receive better software support moving forward.

Yeah you have to remember that a nexus phone is not like a galaxy phone. The nexus line is officially supported by Google. There is no waiting for updates because they don't come from the manufacturer or the carrier, they come straight from the source. How Samsung updates us irrelevant because Google updates this phone not Samsung.
Good to know, thanks. I didn't know who was going to handle the maintenance of the phone software moving forward, I just knew Samsung manufactured the phone so I wasn't sure if they would be in the mix with the software side too. It's very good to know that Samsung won't have ANYTHING to do with the software on the phone!

I think the answer to this thread is if you watched the Keynote today then that's why. Ice Cream Sandwich Q4. I'm sure a new Nexus phone will be out then. The first two were out Dec-Jan so it makes sense.

I can handle having the s for 2 years because it will be kept up by Google. Then when my real upgrade come November of next year it will be just about time for the next nexus after this years. Basically as long as there is a nexus phone available I will be okay to keep it for 2. I'm tired of the evo after 6 months

Oh yea the Nexus S will be just fine to keep and I'm sure it'll still run just fine with the Ice Cream overhaul. I just know people will want the next version of Google's Nexus line. Honestly, the Sensation, Evo 3D, and SGSII are all nice, but that's what you get. Like what you see is what you get and the updates are very slow. Samsung has been on a role but not so close with US carriers. They need to make that bond stronger or something. Manufacturers should of thought it through knowing they would have to update these things. They have a new device that will or wont come with the latest build and they have to update it along with previous devices. It's all over the place.
A Nexus phone is the best device you can have. Runs smooth as ever and it's not even dual. Every device comes with issues so you have to pick and choose wisely. Yea, you have developers but must we always revert to them just so we can get an update? Not every consumer is a geek or will take time out to do that. You have to think of the ordinary person that knows enough that they want a future proof device but know nothing about rooting/jailbreaking comparing it to Apple heads. Like Apple heads they know to expect updates on a timely manner to be introduced to new features and bug fixes and performance, but aren't looking to hack and etc just to do that. That's not in your contract.
Me personally I do a little rooting out of curiosity to see how other roms float on my boat, but when it all comes down to it, I'm fine as is. Pure Google is only going to get better. If they push the Nexus line to every carrier at the same time and not so far apart like they did with the S, then at least consumers will have an option.

To read this forum one might come away thinking that they need a new phone every 5 minutes.
I mean, do people ever use their phones or do they spend all their time dicking around with them?
After my experience with a hand-me-down STOCK Hero that doesn't even reliably connect to Android Market, I'll be damned if I'm going to mess up a new phone that serves my needs. Particularly if said phone offers the "pure" Google Android experience, whatever that is.
What is the True Android Experience hmmmm. well After have activated 2 phones for customers and going through the menus I'm very impressed with the Speed as someone already stated the speed is very fast yet is not running dual cores, also it is very stripped from all the preloaded software so that makes it even better, on the down note I really wish that they woul've added more features to the camera, right now I have an Epic for the simple reasons of the Continuos shot and some of the other camera add ons, battery wise I'm not sure but with the Epic I easyly get over 8 hrs if not more with stand by and 3g radio off, Besides Gingerbread I'm not sure If I'll switch to a Nexus is a fifty fifty right now, I'm just going to keep reading about other's experiences
The phone doesnt even have the "samsung" logo on it. Also it doesnt come with any Sprint software including Sprint navigation if that wasnt mentioned before.

haha well both myself and dreamsforgotten have the ns4g its a bit different playing with aosp code. but we are working on tweaking stuff and seeing what all we can do
right now we are trying to learn a whole new system

I just recently switched from the Epic 4g to the Nexus S 4g, and I don't regret it at all. My main reasons for switching were....
Another thing that I value highly about the Nexus S is how smooth the operational experience is. Gingerbread runs flawlessly, is very fast and the battery life definitely exceeds that of my Epic 4g (..and that's with the live wallpaper running all day as well).
- - No slider keyboard/form factor
- - No Sprint bloatware

What is the basis for the popular criticism of bloatware?
I'm not asking about the philosophical stance that "I just don't want it", I want to know what problems it causes. Are the phones with bloatware really that terrible? Because this Nexus S 4G was a big swing-and-a-miss, so if I'm forced to a phone that actually, you know, makes phone calls it will probably have to be one that comes with bloatware. What's the big deal?

Frustrating and power consuming are more appropriate terms. My Epic wasn't a terrible phone by any means, but the piggybacking associated with the bloatware robbed the phone of battery power. Maybe the battery consumption didn't bother you (..or maybe you didn't experience it), but it was quite bothersome for me and many others. If a phone can't last through an 8 hour work day with only moderate use, something is very wrong. My NS4G hasn't been charged in 10 hours, and I still have a little less than half of my battery remaining (...and that's with a live wallpaper, fairly heavy texting, WordFeud'ing, etc.). My Epic would have already been dead.
P.S. I don't understand why you consider the NS4G to be a "swing and a miss". It's proving to be a wonderful phone.......
....well, at least my particular NS4G is. Sure, you'll hear about the lack of HD video recording and the lack of a removable/upgradeable memory source (..neither of which I care about; I don't record many videos and 16GB of built-in memory is plenty enough for me), but operationally the NS4G trumps my Epic.

I've had the Nexus s 4g and i have to say i'm a little underwhelmed. I loved my evo and the developer support for it is AMAZING!! The support for the nexus ehh...sucks! I didn't think i'd miss Sense, but i've missed it and realized how awesome it is! My nexus s 4g just doesn't do enough to make me feel like i "upgraded" my phone. And as you can see the update from froyo to gingerbread earlier this month was very disappointing. So it makes me think about if having the latest software is really worth it. I'm one of the many who also experiences bad 3g signal. For all the fuss about it being "pure google" and no bloatware my battery sucks on the Nexus. I think i'm going to be returning this nexus and going to the EVO 3d and be a happy rooter again.

i just came from Verizon's line of Droids to the Nexus S4 Sprint's coverage has made me miss Verizon I have feel in love with my S4G. not sure about everyone else complaints about the S4G, but i've experienced none of them. the battery can drain fast sometimes, but I do tend to overclock mines at 1.2 GHz so that's expected. I played with the Evo 3D and it feels horrible in my hand & the S4G moves faster regardless if it's not the all hyped "dual core". simply put it's the best phone that's been in my hands & i've had the OG Droid, Droid Eris, Droid X, LG Ally, & iphone in it...

I bought 3 Nexus S 4G's from Sprint on Friday...and returned them all on Saturday. Had to switch to EVO....which I didn't want to do, however, the NEXUS S 4G could not connect to a network with any solid performance. SUPER LAME! 
We also bought one EVO...so on friday night I couldn't make any calls in or out using any of the NEXUS' (one bar of coverage on 3G and NO 4G available). While the EVO (in the same house in the same place as my prior phones which all worked fine for years with solid coverage) had 5 bars...and 4G availability!!??
I then connected the NEXUS' to WiFi...and received sloooowwww speed and connectivity 4 feet from the dang WIFI router.... So unless you're planning to connect up the internet and phone lines via cables you carry with you...I'd recommend NEVER buying a NEXUS S 4G and adding this to the failures by SAMSUNG.

I'm pretty sure I've heard that Ice Cream Sandwich will be optimized for Dual Core phones so any single core phones will get a watered down version of the software. I think it will be hard to hold on to the Nexus S for two years unless you just don't care about the new stuff.
Why would anyone switch or upgrade from an Epic or Evo to the Nexus S ?? I'm curious to hear reasons why, please be short and to the point, like if Gingerbread is the reason what is the big deal about it , google voice why is that so important or the NFC chip, etc.....what makes the Nexus the Greates above other thanks
As someone who upgraded from an Evo 4g handset, the reasons I chose the Nexus over the Evo 3d are:
(1) the android OS is optomized for a single core right now; perhaps you have seen the video reviews on YouTube where the Nexus routinely loads pages faster than the Evo. By the time ICS comes, Evo 3d users would have to wait even longer for HTC to come up with an update - even now, the Evo 3d is running an older version of android OS than the Nexus - by the time HTC catches up, it would likely be near the time to update the phone again.
(2) battery life in the Nexus is ostensibly better on the Nexus.
(3) 3d is painful and uncomfortable.
(4) the main camera on the Nexus is better.
(5) NFC seems promising.
(6) free wireless tethering out of the box.
(7) Nexus will receive updates first. Etc.
