Wi-Fi connection and IP problem

I have Samsung Galaxy S2. When I connect to WiFi network it gets assigned IP address that is already in use(192.168.0.100) and creates IP conflict with my PC. After I set IP setting to Static and assigned to it IP 192.168.0.103 internet connection is... frustratingly random(sometimes working, sometimes not). I even tried several other IP addresses and still the same. To be sure that rest of the settings are correct I set its IP to 192.168.0.100(still with static IP settings) and everything worked. What is the cause of this network instability? How to fix this? Do I have to adjust some settings in my router?

I've had kind of a similar problem at a friend's house that I was asked to fix. It was a laptop and not a phone that was having the problem. Everything but the laptop was a desktop, etc. Every time the laptop came back home it had IP issues.

I set all the computers to a static address and let the laptop be the only dynamic IP on the network. Would that work?

Have you tried unplugging the router and about 20 seconds later plugging it back in and trying again?

If I set my Phone to dynamic IP it takes IP address that is already in use by my PC. All computers in my home have static settings to avoid IP conflicts and to ensure file share between them. I am puzzled why does it take IP that my PC is using.

I will try router reset.

Try a really high static IP for your PC and all others set to static. Hopefully the phone will grab a lower number.

Routers can reserve IP addresses for specific devices (I think using lease times and mac addresses). It may be worth looking at the router's settings to see if you can find anything that might cause it to always allocate this address to the Galaxy S2.

Another possible cause of problems is having 2 dhcp servers on the network. If you've just got a wireless router there's no problem but if you are using say a wired router and a wireless access point with both of them running dhcp, you might have conflicts.

As for our own networks. I use a wired network with static IPs for most fixed devices although a couple (eg. our Laser printer) are on IP addresses reserved by the dhcp server. The mobile (currently laptop, my androids and a Sony ebook reader) are on the "home" wireless network and I think are all set to dynamic.

You're using static IP addresses that are already included in the router's DHCP address pool; it thinks they're free so assigns one to the handset.

The solution is to use two different ranges for DHCP and static addressing e.g. 192.168.0.1xx and 192.168.0.2xx.
