Root Wifi and costom roms......help!

Hi, after alot of reading on here i finally rooted my desire and done the s-off thing with revolutionary, thanks for the help!
Anyway since rooting and installing a rom i cant connect to my wifi at home, i've mostly been using cm7 but also tried...
insertcoin - wouldn't boot up
leedroid - wouldn't boot up think both may be ok if i partition sd card
oxygen - worked but still no wifi
reflex -worked no wifi

every time i've tried to connect to router it can see it, ask for wep key but wont connect
any ideas anyone really dont want to go back to stock gb
i've also posted on cyanogens site but got no help there.

I would guess that Insertcoin also needs a partitioned SD card. Always read the first few posts of the ROM thread at XDA to see if there are any special instructions or requirements.

Do you have the problem immediately after a fresh install? By this I mean after wiping the phone and installing the ROM, but before restoring any user apps or data.

Otherwise, can you tell us in detail what your ROM install procedure is? You must be doing something wrong, so more information may help someone guess what.

from stock but rooted:
pop battery out start phone to hboot> recovery
that goes on to revolutionary
wipe phone
install from sd card
select cm7 rom and reboot
then add gapps
restart sign in to google

everything works fine exept for the wifi can install and update apps as normal
i know i need to partition sd card really thats next on to do list i gather gparted is the way to go, ideally i want a rom with sense 3 although i like how customizable cm7 is.

this is odd - ive tried a few roms and wifi is always fine for me - im on cm7 actually at mo - are you doing a wipe wipe wipe before reinstall? that might help maybe
 
Right, been through it again done factory reset/wipe, wiped ext. and wiped dalvik then installed cm7 and gapps, restarted done all the set up stuff but still no WiFi, input wept key but won't go past obtaining ip address. Although when i then restore to stock rom everything works as it should
 
hmm try changing the wifi channel on the router. failing that you should look into flashing a different RIL
 
RIL is a Radio Interface Layer. There's some explanation, and downloads, here.

The RIL comes with the ROM, and there are different ones for Sense and AOSP ROMs. You should take a nandroid before changing RILs - if it doesn't work you can undo with a nandroid restore, or else by reflashing the ROM.

As you've had problems with both Sense and AOSP ROMs (which use different RILs) it may be a bit of a long shot, but I can't think of much else. I've used the HTC-RIL 2.2.1003G with CM7 and the same radio you are using, and am currently using 2.2.1001G which comes with my current ROM.

Be warned that with an incompatible RIL you may well lose mobile data, or lose mobile signal altogether, which is why I've added how to undo this above.
 
thanks all, starting to look like a bit of a nightmare, have read flashing radios isnt easy, having enough problems getting my head around gparted (not found the you tube link that great no narrative and not easy to see what i should be doing) if it wasnt for running out of memory i'd probably stick with stock gb although i love how you can customize cm7 but would really like a sense based rom, any suggestions with sense 3?
 
You already have the latest (and I expect final) radio, so no need to change that.

RIL is a different thing: part of the ROM, no danger of bricking the phone (a nandroid restore or ROM flash will undo it), just a simple flash from recovery.

Can't help with Sense ROMs - I gave up Sense a year ago, never tempted to return to it, so I've never tried any Sense 3 ROMs.
 
Just a thought, but are you sure your Wifi params are set OK? E.g. maybe your router is not set up for DHCP, and you've not configured your static IP info on the phone after flashing?
 
just been through my router, dhcp is enabled and have tried setting up a static ip with no luck:-(
another odd thing is i have found i can get on the wifi at the pub(the cloud i think) suppose the easy solution anytime i want to use wifi....go to the pub!

im guessing these roms are using a ril that your router doesnt like
 
There's a RILinfo.apk you can download from the toolbox thread (blue link in my sig). That will show you the current RIL version on your phone.

Downloads in that thread are password protected. Start at the end of the thread and work back, and you'll find the information you need.
 
hi again, have now checked which version RIL im using, cm7 uses 1.6.1062g and my stock gb uses 2.2.0028hm.
so have freshly flashed cm7 after wiping everything, installed the 2.2.0028hm ril and gapps restarted and still no wifi
ideas? help??

Everything else is still working?

Last time I tried a Sense RIL with an AOSP ROM I lost mobile signal after about one minute :). But I seem to recall that SUroot could use the same RIL just fine - it's surprising how different devices respond.
 
think everything else is ok, but to be honest i flashed the phone and immediatly tried the wifi, found it not working so did restore to stock, cm7 running probably 10-15 mins didnt notice loss of signal but never tried to make call but google updated over 3g.
Just flashed leedroid v3.3.3, guess what...........no wifi will have a poke around looking at what ril its using.
Assuming i installed the ril right, i.e. install zip via recovery?

its odd, you dropped the phone or anything? im wondering if the clip has come loose in the phone.
if its not ril, radio, rom then its hardware
 
phone has had a couple of minor drops nothing spectacular and a crack in the screen,no idea how it happened!
still on leedroid at mo lovin the amount of free memory 110mb !
same ril as stock gb but no wifi at home(stock works at home no probs), but it does work in the pub! popped in friday for a pint and downloaded a few apps(convenient!)
 
*****NEWSFLASH******
Well after just over a month of wifi issues i have finally sorted it out!
Was poking about with router settings and was going to disable security to see if i could connect as i can use any open network away from home, on doing this i noticed there were a couple of different keys other than the wep so out of interest i tried one of these a Bingo! we have a wifi connection at home WOOHOO!
