Help Wifi connects but no data

Hello all, this is my first ever post and i am really desperate to get this problem fixed. Really hope someone can help.

I have an S2 from O2 germany, and for the past 4 months it has worked great at my work using wifi. For the past 2 weeks however, it shows i have 4 bars for wifi; there is no security on the router itself (the IT guys allowed me to reset it for a few days to get this problem fixed) but nothing, no data is transferred at all so can't download, surf the web etc.

I've reset the phone, used wifi fixer apps, used the *#*#526#*#* 'trick' but thay have all failed as well. I've also toggled data on/off, flight mode on/off and still nothing. At my wits end. PLEASE HELP! PLEASE!!

Hi

Just to clarify - the vertical bars in the top notification bar relate to your mobile network - O2. Wifi is indicated by arcs, again in the notification window, next to the vertical bars. Using the power button toggling data on and off, means whether you can send or receive data via your mobile network, not WiFi.

So if you do not have the WiFi arcs next to your mobile networks vertical bars, then you are not connected to WiFi, even if Wifi is on.

No offence intended if you knew this already :)

Hi, thanks for the reply - it is the arcs and it worked fine for months until 2 weeks ago. If you google the issue it seems i am not the only one. I am on 2.3.5 btw.

The arcs are there (wifi) and it's full bar city. But if i try browsing or go to the market app there is no connection. It's been 2 weeks - this phone is going on ebay very very soon and back to BlackBerry for me (which i really don't want to do!!!).

No recent reports on this now so wondering if a solution has been found? Last year you find hundreds of posts on this issue but no solution. Seriously, 2 weeks of this sh**, really had enough......

Did anything change two weeks ago, either an update to your handset or a change of network config at work? If you check the wireless connection (Settings/Wireless & networks/Wifi settings) does the handset obtain a valid IP address from the router?

Something else to try: select and choose to "forget" the wireless connection, reboot the handset then try re-establishing a fresh connection.

Thank you slug - i have tried that yes, i forgot the connection and reconnected after rebooting the phone. Also reset the router so now there's no security on there as well; all open. I get a kind of loop now where it tries to obtain an ip, but then it disconnects. If i change to static ip it seems to connect, with full bars, but there's no data. I also restored my phone to a previous backup but still no luck.

Spoke with the IT guys just now, and the term 'firewall settings' was mentioned - but they tell me it's been done in such a way that it can't be the cause (sorry i'm no tech guy so not sure what they meant byt that). Nobody else seems to be affected by this except me!

I am frantically searching the web, there are a lot of people with this issue (last couple of years at least) but nobody has a solution to this. :(

Well, 2 weeks is long enough for this kind of issue - it's goingon ebay tomorrow and going back to my crappy BlackBerry - yuk! At least it knows how to stay connected!

Loved the phone, but something as basic as connecting to wifi really gets my goat. It's the little things that kill...............

Have you checked for a firmware update via Kies? That's about all else I can suggest, short of a factory reset, without having physical access to the handset and router to do in-depth troubleshooting. :(

I had a similar issue early on with my own GS2, but that was down to a 'bad' wifi hotspot in town; once I removed it from my connection list I was able to connect to everything else again.

Thanks again - i have done a full reset as well now, but no joy. However, i think i was a bit quick in blaming the SG2. Brought in my laptop to work and that didn't connect either, and a couple of others (with iPhones) are also having this issue. Apparently they set up wifi on the floor below around the same time that some people are having issues, maybe related? Weird thing is, a few on my floor can still connect with their laptops.

Anyway, i will test it in town and will get wifi in my new pad this week so we'll see. Slightly less frustrated now i am not the only one as i thought before!! Happy days...ish.
