Root Wifi Dropout Problem Persists: Someone, Please Help!

Well at least I know its not just me. Out of interest, what hub are you using?
Standard Sagem router from Sky and they make it a bit of a headache to swap to your own router.

The strange thing is that my phone was perfectly fine up until one Thursday and the only thing I can recall happening that day is someone accidentally unplugged the router. From then on the connection became intermittent.

Also, I was unrooted and using stock Sense back then(rooted + GV a week later) so my problem may not be the same as yours.

I'll switch ROMs and let you know.

You could try the kernel that InfernalByte suggested. And have you tried a RIL update yet?

Otherwise I'm out of phone-based suggestions as well.

Edit: If you do try updating RILs, it's worth knowing what RIL you had originally in case there is a problem and you need to revert (though restoring from a nandroid will do that for you). There's a little app here that can be used to check this. You can find other RILs in this XDA thread, and the one I'm using (which isn't the one in the leak SUroot links) is linked in my sig.

I thought I tried changing the RIL when I flashed the new desire s drivers and RIL posted above by SuRoot?

Also, I really don't think kernals and such like are going to solve this. I must have tried at least 20 different kernals, radios and so on through flashing so many roms. The problem is clear - every AOSP rom (in pure form, not based) such as GingerVillain, CM7, Oxygen, Redux etc causes me this problem. Froyo roms of any kind all work fine, as do sense GB and Miui GB roms.

What about Froyo aosp?

Runs fine. But I want three things in whatever rom I use...

Gingerbread.
Working Wifi without reboots.
CM7 MODS like music player, torch and aall the CM7 settings.

Only GB aosp roms offer that. I've realised I don't really like Miui, and I'm bored rigid of sense.

Ah, OK. Wasn't sure you'd done that in the end.

It's interesting that Miui GB is on that list, as I'd have guessed that would be rather similar to AOSP GB. I'm sure there's a clue here, if I knew enough about this to work it out.

GV, CM7 and Oxygen all come with the same RIL - haven't yet found out what Redux comes with. Nor Miui. But if you've already upgraded the RIL it doesn't seem that likely that a different one would do it.

I'm not technical like that, but it does seem odd that Miui GB works.

I'm open to trying another RIL, along with changing the wifi security from WPA2 to WEP tonight. Any suggestions?

Also, just a thought... could the fact that there are other BT Home Hub's (neighbours) in range, and the stupid BT openzone and FON things running from each Hub be a factor?

--------------------

But in response to ^, I now feel I'm going in circles. Even if the Wifi / Router was the issue, why would it only work on some ROMS?

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I know, the whole thing is very weird. But I'm just glad after months of this annoying problem, I can now flash any ROM I want.

Thanks everyone that helped :)

Absolutely loving CM7 at the moment, and all the tweaks it brings. Might even go back to GV for a bit now this is fixed. Loved GV when I used it, but couldn't cope with the wifi.

How are you enjoying Redux SU? What does it offer that other GB rom's dont?

Redux is fast and smooth. Some say theres less lag on redux but I havent really noticed a difference there particularly.

The main thing is its lightweight and optimised for performance. Its tiny which means I can better allocate internal memory and not have to use the SD card.

I tried LeeDroid GB and also switched the kernel to Vorks. Same problem.

Do you think a static IP address would help?

Do you mean by using alpharev? Or is it as straightforward as me flashing the rom (s-on) and having more memory?

And i've actually found a solution that works for me with memory nowadays. Download ROMS without A2SD, and download an app in the market called S2E? Don't know how it works, but it installs some script and apps take up way less space than on the likes of GV. For example, currently I have 84 apps and 101mb free. It's awesome :)

Hmm well I tried static ip lots and it never made a difference to me.
