So 4g just got turned on at my house last night.... So as I was messing around with it i decided toplaywith the sprint wifi hotspot thing that was pre-loaded on the phone,

Turns out it works and was sending great speeds to my laptop and pc...was very easy to set up,

So I asked tge sprint facebook page if hotspot was free on 4g and I was told that as of now the feature is NOT being cgarged for.

Cause when I turned on the hot spot it didnt say anything about price or subscription and I know for a fact im not paying for it...
Was hoing to get a poll going on this if your paying and getting access or not paying and still getting acces
Thanks

I haven't used it but heard the first 30 days were free. I'm not sure if that means first 30 days after purchasing the phone or from activating the feature, or even if any of this is true...

Pretty sure you get whacked $30/month after the 30 day trial.

But - that's just what I've read, too. Check the Sprint site if you're curious.

Wifi tether for root users + Root + My EVO = :D

First day i had the phone i went on vacation somewhere where i had no internet and and i used my phone to let my sister use my wifi on her phone to surf the net..The kids were playing the wii online and a laptop was browsing on WiFi all at the same time Using my EVO's Free HotSpot:cool:

Also used PDANET to turn a useless computer with no Internet and it wasnt wifi enabled and brung it to life with my EVO:D

All this was done on 3G

If your using the Sprint app you HAVE to pay 30 a month theres no 2 ways around it

oh I'm going to have to watch for that 30 days then... It was funny on sprint facebook page the guy loni was like yeah wifi tether is free from sprint right now... Then you ee some guy all pissed... Why they charging me 30 bucks.. Lol...

Yeah watch it because in most cases with trials they wont tell you when its up....after the 30 days they will begin to charge you without notice

Or you can cancel now, root your phone and be good to go:D

free for me, I passed on that so called "update" a few weeks ago... So I'm still using the original unrevoked....

Rooted and free for me as well. Haven't really been able to utilize it because I haven't taken any trips or gone anywhere without internet access, but it's a great feature to show off.

Me too...Every day around 5:20pm it asked me to update i just click cancel and go about my business...If they made Unrevoked3 as easy as the earlier verson i would update and re-root but all i want root for is for the wifi tethering so im not to concerned plus i had no issues with my current software version

That's weird cause there was no indication that it was a trial or limited time thing... All I did was click sprint hot spot and tat was it... It made the name for it(evo then numbers) and had password... And that was it

I wish unrevoked3 was like thee original all I wasn't it for us free tether.. And I like the option to just reboot phone and bam its back to oem...

It is you probably didnt read the fine print somewhere......The Sprint app is 30 bucks a month

HTC EVO 4G: Free Sprint Mobile Hotspot : Product Reviews Net

"We wonder if the carrier has caused this loophole intentionally, customers will get used to the service and will not want to give it up, which they will then have to sign up and pay $29.99 per month for – that’s on top of their tariff charges."

Enjoy your trial while it last

from the home screen... menu... settings... system updates... htc s/w update... uncheck scheduled check... that way you wont be bugged to update...

I will go full root once there is a rom with sense working 100%

Yeah half those roms are missing the camera,4G or some other feature i dont want to give up....Launcher Pro is good enough for me now i really dont care about FPS

Technically not a trail... Since sprint is goin to fix this...
According to Thomas Ricker from Engadget, Sprint is aware of this loophole and plans to resolve it sometime in July, after then you will need to activate the Sprint Mobile Hotspot add-on. Just imagine how much this will cost Sprint, As the HTC EVO 4G is expected to shift in huge numbers?

The loophole is that it gives you a trial your not even supposed to get that....

I dunno how that can even happen but good news for people who want to try it out

Oh... I see what you mean... Does that mean when they fix the loop hole I'd actually have to click something that says activate hot spot feature?

For the people not able to use this feature (blocked by sprint)
What message or error code are you getting?

No im guessing when they fix it new users will no longer be able get a trial...And as for you you get a month free but after that they will charge you...

Bubble popped.... lol... I'll watch for it and see what happens..

Again for those not able to use the hot spot... Why is that?

I get a error 67 message when i turn mine on, not in a 4g area though

Its actually better to root your phone and use the 3rd party app so you can use the feature with 3G...The fact that you have to pay AND be in a 4G area is just ridiculous
