Root Wifi hotspot, Wifi tether, USB tethering on Decks reloaded. None work for me....

Tried All sorts of setting changes on all 3 options. No matter what I do I can not get my laptop to get internet access at all. I can connect to several other wifi networks so I know it is not an issue with my laptop. I'm thinking the features just simply do not work on Decks. I thought it said wifi hotspot was working when I flashed it. Anyone else experience this or have tips on how to resolve the issue if these things should in fact work?

Mason G 0.14 fso or sbc-fso or sbc? I have no idea what any of those mean or the differences.

FSO makes the system faster. Theres a small chance it could crash(never heard of anyone having issues) so make sure you have a working nandroid.

SBC is superior battery charging--your gonna want that

I'd suggest going with his newest ones found on his blog
atyoung's Development Blog

Mason G 0.15 RC4 sbc fso

Post from Atyoung ( Mason Kernel Guy ).......

Variants:

nosbc - Standard kernel without sbc
sbc - Smart Battery Control
hwa - Hardware Acceleration
fso - File synchronization off

Note on FSO:

I provide this without any warranty at all (not that I do with anything else). Yes, fso makes things faster, it's for the speed hungry among you, however there is the potential, however slight that you can get corrupted data on a crash. Do not run this without a proper nand, it's just a bad idea. I haven't personally had any issues, but that doesn't mean that in theory it can't happen. It's a very strong possibility however slight it might be. The price you pay for speed I suppose.

Note on SBC:

There are some out there who find sbc and unholy abomination. Though again I have not experienced issues personally, there are some out there that claim that it can damage your battery, particularly the lifetime of the battery. There is data to support both sides of this argument, and I'm not here to go over all that. But be warned that it may cause some battery issues, and take care that you are both advised of the risks and willing to take them for some extra juice.
I believe the one I used and stuck with was the sbc,(not currently on the ROM so I can't check right now.) Kernels will act differently on each phone so what worked for me may not work for you. I tried around 6 different Mason kernels, v.14's and .15's before I got this one to work.
I wiped both caches before and after installing the kernel, then rebooted.
Also, make sure to turn OFF the wireless tether apps auto update, and do not update it manually.

I downloaded the recommended kernel and tether app from this thread. This particular app wont even register as a network to my laptop. The one that came with reloaded will show up on my available networks as will just using the wifi hotspot feature. I still cannot connect to either of them though. It will tell me the security settings are not the same even though they are exactly the same and will only give me limited connectivity. No internet access.

The app recommended here gives me the following errors when I try to run it-
It tells me tethering has started with errors-
1.setting channel- failed
2. setting essid- failed
3. setting ad-hoc mode- failed
4. activating wifi interface- failed.

I'm not sure what else to look at. With mik 3.11 the wifi hotspot worked perfectly right out of the box. On the same laptop I can't connect with now. Super lame. :(

I have been following your thread about this as I cannot use usb tether.
Wireless tether works but not usb.
I have not delved into it much as we all await the next update to .500, then I will worry about it.
However, for usb tethering I use this
It will not work for https secure sites after the trial period but for me it works for now until the update.
Just my 2 pennies.:)

I downloaded that app and I was able to get usb tethering working (yay!) however it is downloading at .8 mbps and won't upload at all. So Unfortunately that isn't going to work for me. The downloads i'm attempting (stuff for work) won't even start. I can surf the web now which is cool but my primary goal won't work this way. Still bummed the wifi tethering stuff is not working with this rom as i've used them before and they work flawlessly for my purposes. Be a shame to have to go back to Mik just for the tether. Im digging reloaded otherwise.

I've heard of others using pdanet. On phone now and can't link you to it. Some swear by it

Probably just gonna switch back to Mik 3.11. I get real irritated when stuff I need doesn't work. lol ><
Hahaha.....I know what ya mean. I was having the exact same issues that you are having now. I would put Reloaded on the phone in the mornings and nand back to MikG in the evenings when I got home so I could use the tether.
I searched the thread at XDA and here for weeks trying to figure out why I couldn't connect. Never did figure it out....lol.......but one day I did a nand restore back to Reloaded and tried the built in Hot Spot and it was working so I tried the 2.0.7 apk for WT and it started working. I wish I could be more help cause I know the frustration you are going through.:o

And like Mikestony said......maybe the new release of the .500 will have it working:D

A bigger, better, smoother update to Decks .44 Reloaded rom:D
Coming soon to an Evo near you!

Edit: got ninja'd by robo!!

Is there an ETA for this new reloaded? Sadly I may be moving to the S3 pretty soon. I love my EVO but Sprints coverage as well as their available customer service is HORRIBLE where I live. Been with Sprint for over 10 years but i'm starting to see that US Cellular has them beat in every category. And now it appears they are finally getting decent phones.

have you tried the other wifi tethering app versions? There are others out there that works better for others for some reason. You can get it from this thread:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...net-tethering-w-evo-4g-3g-wireless-wired.html

my xperia neo l can be a wifi hotspot but whenever i activate it other devices can connect to it but theres no internet connection .. Why ?? I load my sim and register in unlimited surfing but still theres no internet connection ..

not sure why to be honest. did you try the wifi tether app in the link? which one did you try? are you rooted?

other then that i'm not familiar with your device. your better bet is to post in the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo - Android Forums. or if you are rooted then you can also go here:Neo - All Things Root - Android Forums

this is the evo 4g root forum.
