Help WIFI Issue

Hi,

I have a LG Optimus V that can connect to a wireless network only if the SSID is broadcasting, I have other devices that can connect to the wireless without broadcasting the SSID, or is this a limitation of the phone

You shouldn't be hiding the SSID anyway, it isn't standard compliant and offers no additional security. The SSID can be found easily and any device that has to connect to a hidden network is constantly broadcasting the SSID as long as wifi is enabled. There are devices available that will find the name of the network to which you're trying to connect and spoof it so your device connects to their network making you vulnerable to attack.

Hiding the SSID may not protect you from educated and equipped hackers, but it would protect you from the random idiot trying to hijack a signal in order to do who knows what - when it's open authentication, that is. (Not recommended, btw.)

So the "no additional security" assertion is...half correct. It's more "foolproofing" than security, but there's no harm in doing it...If your equipment allows it.

In case anyone feels like arguing, I'm a Cisco-certified network tech, so...it doesn't mean I'm always right, but I hope for your sake you do your homework before you begin, is all I'm saying....heh.

Please stop derailing the OP's issue with off-topic discussion. The question is simply "Can the Optimus V recognise and connect to an AP with a hidden SSID?"

As he/she is a new member, an authoritative reply from the users of the device would be much more welcoming than ignoring the question.

The V can connect to networks without a broadcasted SSID. However, it is rather unreliable, and takes noticeably longer to connect than broadcasted networks. Just go to "Add WiFi Network" At the bottom of the Wi-Fi Settings. It is case sensitive and you have to make sure to select the correct security settings.
