Help Wifi problem

Hi,

I have a wifi problem. I can connect to wifi connections, however after few seconds, with some routers, my phone just disconnects. I have done some research and found out that N routers don't work with the HTC Hero. is that true? Is there anything that one can do to bypass the problem? It is a bit irritating that I can't connect to wifi at work...

The phone is rooted and having firmware villainROM-v13

Thanks in advance ;)

Yes and no. ;)

The Hero's wireless chipset only operates in B and/or G-mode, as N-mode hadn't been ratified when it came to market. Therefore it won't connect to an AP operating only in N-mode. However it should connect to one in mixed (G+N) mode. I say "should" as much depends also on the AP - it's a veritable minefield. ;)

I've actually got a new 802.11n router ready to go into service here, so I'll have first-hand experience to share tomorrow.

That is the problem, I haven a router at home that supports B,G and N however it is constantly connecting and disconnecting.

So at the end I can do nothing but having my phone constantly connecting and disconnecting... so there is no software that one can install to fix the problem?

Thanks for your feedback

What router are you using, and what mode(s) does it support?

If the router/AP you're trying to connect to can only run in N-mode, then yes. It's a hardware limitation of the Hero I'm afraid - its chipset simply doesn't recognise that mode. It will happily work in a mixed G/N environment though; I've just got mine connected.
