Help WiFi Problem

Lurker
I have had my evo 4g for a week now, and btw I also had this same problem with my hero. If I connect my phone to my home router/ap it hoses internet access (LAN functionality of the router still works) on my router and I have to reset it to get internet connectivity back. I have a BEFSR81 (Linksys 8 port wired router) and a WAP54G (Linksys Wireless-G access point). I am able to connect my wifi at work (we have a Cisco 1200 access point) with no problems. I know that the router has the latest firmware, but I'm not sure about the access point (I am at work as I write this).

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Scott

There was a similar issue on with another HTC Handset, the Desire HD. It was resolved by switching off 3G whilst connected to WiFi and/or assigning yourself a static IP address. You might want to see if either of those work?

I just bought a Sprint HTC EVO 3D, but I am keeping my Sprint HTC Hero as a personal media player and Wi-Fi device. I now use Wi-Fi constantly on it for data connectivity. I notice that it easily maintains a connection, but the actual data cuts out and apps that require it do not update. Would setting a static IP address remedy this too perhaps? :)

I have it on Airplane Mode to save battery since cell signal is pointless now, but Wi-Fi still works if I turn it on, which is normal. Anyway, sorry to barge in on a Sprint HTC EVO 4G thread about this, but it seemed similar enough to do so. ;)

I was actually just about to post the same thing in your thread :)

So is this just an inherent problem with the Sprint HTC Hero and the Sprint HTC EVO 4G? It is weird, because when I had my handset activated, I could leave it on Wi-Fi with no issue.

So, I will give the static IP address a try and report back later. I hope to get this fixed soon. :)

So, here is an update. I tried the static IP address fix and I thought it was working, but unfortunately it went back to the same behavior as before.

I wonder if it is just a software thing or perhaps hardware related. I was really hoping that the static IP address would fix it. It is really odd. None of the other Wi-Fi enabled devices in my house have this issue at all and that includes tablets and other smartphones.

I think it's software, it only started occurring after the GB update. HTC blamed google, but folk I knew with the Nexus S never said it was an issue for them.

Hmm. I did a reboot and left the static IP address on. :)

It seems more stable with keeping the data flowing now. I do not know what the deal is. :D

stupid question... but have your wifi sleep settings changed?

No. I have it set to maintain a connection when the handset sleeps.

It does stay connected to my Wi-Fi router, but the data just stops working. It is actually still doing it despite setting a static IP address, though that did help a little. The data DOES actually work every once in a while because I get new email pushed to the handset periodically. But if I go and wake the handset up and try to use the web browser, for example, it will not work and I have to toggle the Wi-Fi on and off.
