wifi problems

Hi everyone
Ive come across a bit of a problem. To be honest Im not sure how long its been going on for but my wifi download speed has droped from about 20mbs to 2-3mbs. First thoughts are is this kernel related but I have tried two different kernels now with no change.I started with the latest siyah and then tried N.E.A.K. Ive also tried different modems and checked the actual speed of my internet at home. This is at 31mbs so it has to be the phone Im guessing. The rom Im using is turkbey v33. I didnt think wifi issues would be rom related but its all I have left to change. Typically I deleted my backups from older versions so I cant revert back without re installing the rom from scratch. This will be my next step unless someone here can shed any light on this. Hopefully someone here can help.
Thanks

Steve

'Fraid not. A backup of the previous existing config would have been ideal, as there's no real clue as to what (if anything) changed to cause this slowdown. It's unlikely to be kernel-related; a problem there usually results in no data connections at all. The modem is the prime suspect but only if you changed it prior to noticing the deterioration. A modem (baseband) that works fine one day won't simply stop working the next. Tbh I'm pretty-well stumped right now.

It's not something crazy like your router's wifi setup switching itself to 802.11b mode, is it? Stranger things have been known to happen.

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah when I get home Im going to try changing the channel on my router.
The test on my computer comes in high but its linked via a cable not wifi. Maybe someone else local is using the same channel and coursing it to drop. The wifi at home has been crashing lately. Its a long shot but worth a try.
I do have much older back ups on my computer so I can flash them too if I need to. Its strange because the last version of this rom im using used the same modem kernel ect as the newer version so i see no reason why it should go wrong.

Well this is embarrassing lol. You was right it was my router. Virginia media downloaded sonenew settings and played about with it. Now getting 18.5mbs. One question though.. Are our phones capped at 20mbs because I've never gone over it yet my wireless is putting out 31mbs?

A lucky guess, but I'm well-used to routers having minds of their own. Glad it was something easily sorted.

Wifi carries a heavier penalty of overheads than a cabled connection due to latency, authentication/encryption etc. My own ADSL router syncs at 19Mbps to the exchange, and right now am seeing 13.2Mbps to the desktop (over Gigabit ethernet) and 11.4mps to the GS2 (over 802.11n wireless).

Well what ever virgin media did it worked well.. For the first time ever I'm seeing 30mbs toothed gs2. My speed us going up to 60mbs soon so hopefully that will also extend the the gs2 too. Thanks for the help with this I was convinced it was the phone due to the amount of roms, kernels ect I flash.
